That’s Big Bill and Dot, plus Lindsay and The Bear on a pair of 1200 GS’s

Trip stats:-, 1126 miles in 6 days, just over 26 hours on the move, here’s the track of our route:-

Scotland2007TrackMap.jpg

After leaving home near Catterick (for us that is as The Bear and Lindsay live in Truro!) we took the scenic route over the fells through Swaledale, Teesdale and Weardale to join the A68 near Corebridge. Here we are near Weardale:-

We crossed the border at Carter Bar…

And headed for our first stop near Livingstone at http://www.ashcroftfarmhouse.com

Tuesday took us North, across the Forth bridge…

And onwards up the A9 through mixed weather, some showers but it never really rained properly, well not in the true Scottish sense anyway!

We paid a visit to the distillery at Edrodour, It’s Scotland’s smallest, and well worth a visit…

Two small stills, which needed a 10mm lens to get thm all in the frame!

Tuesday night was spent at Sleeperzzz, http://www.sleeperzzz.com always a good place to stop, and don’t forget to visit the Pittentrail Inn, good food.

Wednesday took us North again, soon the roads became single track, here we are on the A838 near Loch Eriboll…..

Lunch was taken at Durness in the White Heather café…

Yes we really have got all the way to Durness, that’s a long way from Truro!

At Durness we were amazed to discover that even a GS can pull the birds…..

From Durness we headed South, not much option really! Towards Scourie…

And through amazing scenery…

Elphinarea.jpg

and then on to Elphin, to visit the rather nice tea rooms, with a view….

Those hills are Suilven and Canisp if you were wondering!
More super riding and scenery as we headed through Ullapool and turned right for Gairloch on the A832, out along the south shore of Little Loch Broom,
…..not so little eh!

LochBroom.jpg

After a pleasant night at Gairloch http://www.stratfordhouse.co.uk we continued South along the shores of Loch Maree…

And then towards Plocton and the Kyle of Lochalsh, as you can see the weather was being very kind to us, and gave us super views of the Five Sisters of Kintail….

and in the other direction, the Cuillins on Skye…

LochAlshandtheCullins.jpg

We took a short de tour and crossed the Skye bridge…

Before a visit to Eilean Donan castle, and then the very nice A87 south to Invergary…

Along the shores of Loch Cluanie…

Pausing to admire the view along Loch Gary…

Then south along the great Glen, turning right just before Fort William on to the A830, taking coffee at Glen Finnan before continuing West and taking the A861 for Salen.
Good views of Rhum and Eigg from this road…

And a lovely sunset at Dorlin…

before Thursday night at the Salen Hotel http://www.salenhotel.co.uk

Friday took us east across the Corran Ferry, much to Lindsay’s displeasure!

Across the Ballachulish bridge and up Glen Coe…

Coffee at the Green Wellie, and the the A82 around Loch Lomond to our final stop near Cumnock at Newark Farm B&B http://www.newarkfarm.com

We hope you enjoyed our tale!

What A Week

We had a great trip up and around Scotland With Bill and Dot... now we have to plan our next trip away...so many choices..so few holidays we say... only have to get rid of stupid car drivers :mcgun

Great pics.:thumb

Was touring Scotland on the same route at the same time as you, except we done it clockwise.

Passed you going the opposite direction ( 1200GSA and two Transalps ) north of Edinburgh on the Tuesday( I think ).:)

Ill post pics when I get our three sets gathered together.
