coming to scotland saturday thru monday. landing in troon early sat morning with a mate and my wife as a pillion. I've to drop her off in Edinburgh asap and pick her up monday teatime. Couple of things:
anyone got a half interesting yet reasonably direct/fast route from Troon to Edinburgh or is it worth banging along motorways etc to get there so we've longer to play once the drop off occurs?
then my mate and I have some time to play late saturday morning through to monday teatime when we have to be back to pick up lynda in edinburgh and back to Troon. Any rough suggestions for a fun loop to and from edinburgh with a couple of nice spots to stay sat and sun night?
all suggestions gratefully received!

Jump on the slab and get the first bit over with....:D

Then head off north & west to the Trossachs and the west coast to play...you're lucky, the midges seem to be quiet at the moment....enjoy:thumb

If you have the time, head down to Dumfries, and take the A701 from their via Moffat to Edinburgh.

The Dumfries-Moffat section is fast, but watch out for roadside cameras :spitfire

Or, when you get to moffat, take the A708 up by St Mary's loch to Selkirk and Edinburgh.

Both great roads, and for eats:

Coffee shop in Moffat on left hand side of the main street

Roadside diner at St Marys loch on A708 by the Tibbie Shiels Inn.

Sail to Stranraer / Cairnryan there's a route from Newton Stewart via New Galloway (the Queens Drive - she must be a good driver) Moniaive, Thornhill, Elvanfoot. Real GS territory. The M74 for one junction gets the A 702 to Edinburgh.

Heading over next week to say hello to my son, in Edinburgh, and then heading to the north west, he's a TDM man. For me Scotland really starts at the commando memorial a few miles NE of Fart William. That said there are good routes further south around Oban.

Enjoy

S`no that bad
Anyway, we say "Bramach" up here!

Apart from biking I'm into climbing - spent several wet days in F William waiting for the weather to clear drinking beer and farting.

Incidentally for climbing the Black Cullins in Skye are paradise.

Heading through Skye later this week to Uig and a boat to the inner Hebrides - any accomodation recommendations about Stornoway.

Getting the ferry from there to Ullapool - no climbing this time but the weather seems sat fair for biking.

David, tell your passenger to get a bus........................ then travel about 30 or 40 mins up the coast and catch the wee red ferry to Hunter's Quay... 10 minutes later you will be at the gateway to the Highlands................................................

Trust me, it will be worth it, I did it a fortnight ago and am already planning my next escape.

I didnt even have permission from the boss last time, so my next trip might well end up in the Domestic Courts!
