Scottish West Coast

Left Home {Grantown on Spey} 8.30 am through Aviemore, Kingussie, Newtonmore to A9 south. 50 miles south took Trinafor single track road over the tops past Schahalion / Fortighall / Glen lyon to Loch Tay. Headed west along Lochside at Killin headed for Crianlarich and met Chas & Murray and headed through Glencoe to Oban for lunch.

Oban to Loch Finie and Inveruray for Rum & Raisin ice cream hooked around northern Lochlomondside back to Crianlarich where we all split to travel back home. Never checked the mileage but filled the tank twice, arrived back home at 8.30 pm after nearly losing it on the single track road back over Schehalion. {Local wildlife distracted attention at a crucial bend}.

Excellent weather, stunning scenery, great company.

I will be going from Stirling services to Skye in the next few weeks any suggestions.

My plan was to do Stirling services, calander, crianlarich, bridge of orchy, glencoe, ballachulish (i know i don't need to put it in this but I like the sound of it), fort william, Big left at Invergarry - A87 to skye.

big question is will I come back what will I do for 2-x days there. decisions decisions decisions...

What about nipping up to Wester Ross ? Any suggestions.

Out of Skye / Kyle of Lochalsh north to Sheildaig, Kinlochewe, Gairloch, {Plockton} across to Dingwall, Inverness, south on A9 to Carrbridge, take backroad {old A9} to Aviemore, Kingussie Newtonmore, out of Newtonmore fork right signed for Laggan Bridge/Fort William alongside Loch Laggan to Spean Bridge right at Spean Bridge to Invergary, Shielbridge and back to Kyle of Lochalsh.

{Achnasheen to Dingwall should also be considered}
{Also Sheep track from Laggan Bridge to Roy Bridge, Head to Garve by Spey Dam & Glenshero on reaching Laggan Bridge}.

getting to Stirling is a bit dull simply leaving Duns taking the A68 then the M9.

The dates are :
Sun 6th April - Amersham to Duns 350 miles avoiding Mways
Mon 7th - Duns to Skye 250 miles - route may well change on the day
Tue 8th - potter about skye
Wed 9th - more pottering around the area
Thurs 10th - ?
Fri 11th ?

After Thursday anything could happen dependent on weather.
General plan is to stop of in my hometown (Glasgow) then head south

Another GS always welcome would be good to meet - so far R1100RS(father), R65(uncle), K1200RS(mate from Landan who has never been North of the border, he begged to come along) and R1100GS(me)

I guess we could meet on the 7th at Fort William (I think we will be there early afternoon) Perhaps that fits your shifts?

The A7 is a far better bet when heading north, great road and very little traffic.

I take it that part of your suggested route is definitely by taking the road over the hill to Applecross and following the coast up to Shieldaig ???

That's right in the middle of my holiday so there's a great chance I'll be able to meet up.

Malky, rather than pay the bridge toll twice, have a look at the Mallaig/Armadale ferry (CalMac).

Great road from Fort William to Mallaig and a bit of variety.

Thinking of bridge tolls - don't pay any and come back via the Kylerhea ferry!

SKye is a great place with scenery like heaven but a lot depends on the weather and if you hit it in the monsoon season forget it.

In my opinion you should leave your itinary flexible until the last minute and perhaps move inland if the weather plays up.
