Scraped cylinder head cover -

I've often wondered what it would be like to drop an 1150GS - well now I know. :mad: :eek:

1. you feel a right prat. 2. when you try to pick it up you pull your back and have to lie paralysed on the deck in agony until 2 kindly builders come along to pick you up and get you and the bike standing upright again (thanks chaps). 3. you examine the bike for damage and find all is well except the cylinder head cover has some nasty scrapes and gouges. It looks like some kind of protective paint or laquor has been damaged and is peeling away at a number of points.

Can anyone give any advice on repairing the worst of the damage. Do I pick off all the loose bits of laquor, rub it back to something solid and then touch up with some new laquor/paint? Does it need to be a particular type of laquor/paint? Is there anything else I should check on the bike having dropped it? Will I ever be able to walk upright again (ouch!)?

Advice will be very welcome. Sniggering will be tolerated as it is probably well deserved!

leave the scratches, they add character. and you can talk about wild adventures in the bush where you scratched your bike.:bounce1 :bounce1

Or just leave it. They just have to keep the oil in.
 
much the same as tucan there's not much that can be done, if you have engine bars you might want to check them too cos I did all the bolts in when I dropped mine even nicer as fault not totally obvious.....

Picking bike up is really easy there's a thread on here how to do it, would recommend reading it. Main thing your alright bikes can always be picked up and repaired it's not so easy with people...
 
Thanks guys - battle scars they are then.

I can confirm that I am essentially Ok, apart from the back brace and being drugged up to the eyeballs with painkillers. On the plus side it gets me out of decorating this weekend!

The bike will be fine. The plastic protector thingie is all bent and twisted and one of the bolts that holds it has sheared off - so I will have a few jobs to do on the bike as soon as I am able to bend again.

Enjoy the bank hols out on your bikes - I'll just have to convalesce in the pub.:beer:
 
H&B

Following a drop where mine slid backwards down a hill, and thereby stripped the plastic protector off, I have bought a new protector and added H&B stabiliser wheels, I mean crash bars. From the nice man in Motoworks.

That makes a lot more sense than me keeping a set of engine bars in the shed for the last 2 years waiting for a convenient moment to fix them on the bike. Clearly having the bars in the shed offers no protection whatsoever!:blast
