Just wondering if anyone can shed light on this: 2005 RT, 13000 miles. Setting off from cold there is a screeching noise but only on the initial set-off , it doesn't make the noise when changing gear or when engine is warm.
It's done it the last couple of times I've been out on it, first time I thought it was a stone or grit in the brakes. Second time it only lasted 5-10 yards. Today, when I was really paying attention, no noise at all....
Other symptoms which have appeared at the same time are:
1. 'brake failure' warning goes out almost immediately where normally (i.e. every time up to now) it has taken up to 200 yards to go out, as per the handbook.
2. Bike normally starts first touch- today it cranked over for 10-15 seconds without starting, 2nd attempt another 15 seconds without starting. 3rd attempt it started and ran just fine. Bloody good batteries them Oddysees! Fuel tank is full.
Just had it's 12k service, a bit late. First screeching episode was at start of the journey to the workshop so I'm confident it's not workshop related as all the symptoms were there before it went in.
I didn't mention the screeching to the workshop because I thought it was gravel in the brakes- we've just made our driveway bigger and had two cases of our cars picking bits up and making a racket due to stones in the brakes.
Mentioned the 'brake failure' light but nothing showed up on the diagnostic check.
I have searched on here and the alternator belt seems to be a regular suspect but this was replaced at service.
Any info/advice/wisdom appreciated. Thanks, Steve.
