Just bought a NN high and wide screen for my 05 GS to replace the standard one that was just frankly hopeless.

Unfortunately, while the new screen does its job of keeping wind buffeting to a minimum, it's just a bit too tall for me, even on the lowest setting. It's rather distracting when the lip of the screen is in my direct line of sight so I'm neither looking over it nor through it.

The last straw was when I put the bike away last night and the bars catch on the screen at full lock.

I'm really stuck now as to what screen I should go for. I'm 5' 11 so taller isn't necessarily going to be better. Any recommendations??

are you sure you havnt go the super high and wide?
ive got a tinted high and wide on my 07gs and its perfect, have it adjusted about half way and its ace, and im only 5' 9!

could try the MRA vario screen, same sort of width if a little wider but the top half is adjustable up and down, so can tailor to suit,

apart from that, its down to personnal choice, what works for you may not work for anyone els, just a case of trial and error!

I didn't know there was a 'super' high and wide screen? I bought it from a fellow GSer on here just recently and it was advertised as a NN high and wide screen.

Might try the MRA vario screen or anything that just isn't as tall as the NN screen would be better. I've heard the standard GSA screen is a good replacement but they stupidly expensive.

I just fitted the Touratech Screen spoiler to the original screen and found it perfect amd I'm 6ft 3 inch. Did the fish dash the other day with it on for the first time and the differance was amazing.

I can recommend the 'Laminar Lip' spoiler.
Fitted to the standard 1200GS screen, It made a huge difference. No buffetting and better wind protection.

See it here: http://www.laminarlip.com/r1200gs.php

Hi Yonkyo, I take it this involves drilling holes in your screen??

I have just fitted the NN winglets which has made an improvment to the overall protection, just wondering if this would be the next step???

No need to drill your screen. The Laminar comes with 4 x 3M Dual Lock pads (like mega Velcro). they work perfectly and i had a job getting them off after 2 years when i sold the bike.

i have tall and wide 5'10 and its spot on
like beerjag says you must have the super high and wide?

I'm liking the look of the MRA vario screen. Motorworks are doing one that's 450mm in height, don't know what the total height of the NN screen is to compare though.

Does anyone know where it fits in between the standard screen and NN screen heightwise?

I presume the MRA just replaces the original or does it need special fittings?

Laminar Lip

h0wz3r, I have a spare laminar lip for a GS, which did raise the buffeting higher, but not high enough for me @ 6'4". Will sell for £40 if you are interested (half new price plus £5 for postage).

Can someone post a link to the super high and wide screen as I can't find it anywhere? As far as I knew there's only a high and wide screen from Nippy Normans?

I haven't actually measured the height of the screen but I will later to check. Also I have my seat on the low position, would this make a difference?

Thanks for the offer of the 'lip' by the way Owen but I'm not interested in that particular solution thanks. Just don't like the look of it and plus my original screen isn't in the best condition to begin with.

Still open to suggestions but preferably under £100 as money is a bit tight at the moment. Might persevere with the NN screen but I don't know yet as only been out with it once.

Just measured the height and it's 56cm which means it is indeed the 'super' high and wide screen. On Nippys site it says 'recommended for riders over 5' 11 tall' so no wonder I had trouble peering over the top of it!!!

Back to the drawing board then or at least back to the GSer who sold it to me.

I ended up with a Cee Bailey's screen from a fellow Tosser. Put a wanted ad in for a screen and see what turns up - I have had good responses to a couple of wanted ads posted so it does work:thumb

You can try everything and never get what you want. The best screen will be the one that totally encompasses the front of the bike, you'll have no buffeting and maximum protection.

It will distort your field of view. No screen or cockpit screen only are exactly the opposite.

I had the GSA screen and found just this so went back to the GS screen. Like you I'm 5 11" but I've found it on the lowest setting gives the least buffeting and I switched the seat to high position.

Might just try the standard screen at the lowest setting then for now.

I'll need to source a or a pair of new plastic lugs that hold the two bolts at the very front of the screen (the pivot part). Whilst originally removing one of the bolts I managed to snap the right hand one (as you sit on the bike facing forward) as it was so stubborn. Thought I'd cured it with a bit of araldite but it just broke again.

If anyone has a spare one or pair I'd be most grateful. Would rather not have to fork out £40 for a new fitting kit from Motorworks!

I have one spare but not sure if it's right or left, I'll find out tonight and let you know. :thumb2

Use copper slip next time as the paint is so crap the aluminium self-welds itself (they are not plastic). ;)

Try changing your seat to high position as well. :thumb

Thanks Snoopy, I'd really appreciate that.

I've already coated the bolts for re-inserting but when I removed them it's the first time they've moved since the bike was new and that was a few years ago. Wasn't much I could do except try and ease them out but as you say it was practically welded to the nut in the plastic lug.

I am interested in your laminar lip. i have just bought the torbinator thingy from nippy norman but found it to be totally useless. the noise was horrendous so i too it off and am back to the standard screen. so looking for an alternative
