I have an R1250 GS HP. I'm 6'2", so taller than average.

I suffered from wind buffeting, so initially I purchased a cheapo screen extender form eBay, which seemed to help.

I therefore purchased something a little better engineered in the form of the MRA Vario Touring screen (VTM). This was definitely better, but its not perfect and I am left wondering whether I would have been better buying the MRA Vario-X-creen which is somewhat larger.

Both products can be seen here:- https://www.bikehps.com/acatalog/BMW_R1250GS_R1250GSA_Adventure_MRA_Adjustable_Motorcycle_Touring_Screens.html

Does anybody have any experience with the larger screen??

Hi, yes I have tried the larger screen on my 1200GS LC. Found wind blast over the upper chest and shoulders was reduced compared to standard screen, but turbulence to head was no better than standard. In fact the aerofoil at the top of the MRA screen increased this blast when raised higher, especially if sited vertically with minimal gap from the larger section of screen. No matter how I tried, I could not improve the situation even though I am the same height as you, with a long torso. Having tried several screens, I found the Puig touring screen the best and one of the cheapest at around £85.
It is wider, taller and has a section at each end of the top edge designed to flick air away from the head.
Hope that helps, good luck finding the right set up.

I have an MRA Vario Touring Screen and a Puig touring screen.

The MRA is good in the summer, but it’s nowhere near as quiet and protective as the Puig.

I’m a lot shorter than you though at 5’8”, so the Puig may not work as well for you.

I bought my 1250 GS back in September, I am 6' 2" I changed the stock screen for the Puig screen, it totally transformed riding the bike. Highly recommend.

If you do go for a larger screen don't forget screen supports as they wobble a bit more than std.

I've used Puig and Givi, with Puig being much better as they don't 'clamp' the screen tight, so turning the standard adjuster is all that's needed, no releasing of clamps and can be adjusted on the move, if required.

I´m 1.8m tryed the gs and gsa screens and ended up with a Vstrem, perfect for me and they have a taller version, bought it at Louis

Ho ho - I am 5' 6" and the standard screen is brilliant, probably the best on any bike I have had for lack of noise and wind blast and decent protection. Sorry that does not help you taller guys though :)

+1 for the tall Puig screen, I sit a wee bubble of nice calm air, having a hamlet,

Pug for me. I'm 5'10 and in comfort compared with stock screen.

Happy New Year folks. Safe riding.

Thanks all. It sounds as if the PUIG is the favourite out there.

Any chance of some photos of the bike with the PUIG screen fitted. Whole bike photos rather than just the front end.

Thanks again

Seen the puig screen has a speed limit of 85ish mph. Does anyone take notice of this? I do like a three figure blast every now and again.

I'm 5.10 and have the gsa screen with mra spoiler which i'm happy with. If that hadn't worked i was going for a Madstad which i had on my tiger sport and could ride that all the way into the 130mphs with visor up, it was brilliant if a bit ugly. I don't know of anyone who's tried one but might try one when i'm bored.
If you put a larger screen on make sure you use some kind of support.

Nope, but then again I have their supports - not sure if that makes a difference.

For sure the std screen mount is flimsy with a larger screen fitted..

I'd be interested on whether the Puig screen is noticeably better than the standard GSA screen - I can see why it would be better than a GS screen as they are smaller than the GSA screen.

Puig is quite a bit bigger than the GSA one.. and IMO does work better although I did cut 40mm off the top of my Puig so I could see over it and the road for potential issues in the up position.. works great.. 80 mph visor up if you want...

Which supports do you use? Can you still adjust screen on go with then?

Cheers

I have a dark smoke Puig if you're interested. Used for about 2 months then changed to the tinted OEM GSA screen.

Puig.

I can adjust it on the go up to around 50'ish.

As I'm often filtering I prefer the option to have it at the lowest setting or higher depending on the riding at the moment.
