Today was the first time I've been out in any significant wind since I ditched the screen on my GS1150. Ditching the screen had made a big difference in terms of removing buffeting in calm conditions, but boy what a difference in the wind. Compared to being truly scary and blown around like a sail (even with just a std small screen) the bike is now rock steady.

However, the windstream noise is a pain and was very much greater in today's windy conditions. Question is, would Tobinators give me the best of both worlds (ie no sail-effect and no noise)? Otherwise I'll live with the noise and the infinitely better handling that goes with the no-screen option.

Been there done that... Standard screen, no screen, ADV screen , MRA screen, Wunderlich screen. Tobinated on all choices except no screen ;)

you'd be best spending a ridiculous amount of time looking through the threads after doing a "Tobinator" search

Or just accept that the GS is about as aerodynamic as a skip...:beerjug:

FWIW I do most of my riding with a Shoei Synchrotec lid.. wore my new Arai Viper GT the other day.. couldn't believe how quiet it was in comparison to the Shoei...

I did one trip on my 1150GS (Glasgow to Birmingham and back) before deciding that something had to change in the screen department. There is no general consensus of what "is best" so I decided to take the cheap and most easily adjustable route with Tobinators. They work for me, buffeting is much reduced and I feel that due to the screen being higher and angled back much further than standard it is less influenced by cross winds.

However, when winter arrived big time the wind blast coming under the screen was pretty unpleasant especially when carrying rain and road crud so I got hold of another slightly damaged standard screen and cobbled together a plate which roughly (very roughly :o ) follows the shape of the light shroud, rivetted to the bottom of the screen it cuts out the majority of wind blast.

In th summer I put the standard screen, sans mod, back on to get somecooling air.:thumb I've done over 30,000 miles in 3 years now and I'm still happy with it.

I've just fitted an adventure screen and tobinators to my 1150.

And while I'm here, many thanks to all the people who affered advice a couple of weeks ago.:beerjug:

It was a toss up between the adventure and MRA screens, but the adventure was cheaper [from Nippy Normans], and slightly wider, so I went with that.
Fitted it last weekend. Definite improvement. Have left it at a setting which works reasonably well untill I get used to it. I've also ordered a lower seat. When I fit that, I plan to do some final tweaking on the screen.
