Numpty question (again) I'm sure:

got new camera (TZ5). Fired off some shots, but when trying to load on to PC via built in card reader, I get the warning:

"F:\ is not accessible.

The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."
Camera manual says to format SD card only if prompted by certain warnings (which it didn't give me). My first thought is to format SD card and try again, but of course I lose all the photos already taken if I do.

Is there anything else even more stupid I've overlooked ?

TIA

Make sure the card isn't 'locked' you should see a little sliding switch on the one edge of it.

you might have a sdhc card - is it above 4gb? does the card reader work with a lower capactiy card, if so then your card reader can not handle sdhc cards.
2 options: buy an external sdhc reader or replace the built in reader

If it's any consolation, file transfer with the supplied camera/USB lead is actually pretty quick.

Consequently, I haven't bothered to upgrade my card reader.

cheers for those thoughts chaps - I did wonder about the SDHC thing on my way in to work this morn. Didn't check the lock doofer on the card, but good thinking. I don't have card with me and it's my home PC I had the problem with (now at work) - I haven't touched the card since it came out the box, but it could have been locked from the start, I s'pose.

All bally good suggestions - thanks one and all - tossers to the rescue again :comfort :D :D :D

Yep. Sounds like new card old reader. Happened to me. Bought a little card reader off e-bay and carry it round in the camera case now. Only cost me 50p including postage from Honk Kong. Inflation seems to have doubled the price now!

you could always use the cable as supplied..
