Sea France ferry service suspended

Crimbo

Thanks for the heads up. We're booked to travel just before Christmas. It looks as though crossings should continue in to January in theory:nenau

We're only trying them because the new P and O ships are a pain. It's a struggle to find a seat when they're busy. we use ferries to give us a break after the run down too Dover but I'm tempted to go back to the chunnel.

The problem may be that... to quote...

"The court, however, provides an opportunity to submit revised bids before 12 December 2011".

The unions aren't happy about the DFDS proposal/bid (high number of redundancies) and if they resubmit their bid and, if it looks like it will be accepted the unions may take action.

Sods law I ordered my tickets, for a trip in May, on 14th November.

Do you have a flexible ticket or fixed date one? If you have the former then you can usually cancel them. If you have a fixed ticket then wait to see what happens in January. If the company ceases trading then you may not get a refund but the administrator may do a deal with P&O or Eurotunnel and transfer your booking. If that doesn't happen then your bank should sort you out if you used any credit card or VISA debit card.

In the meantime, if it's essential you travel on May 14th you may want to keep an eye on the other routes to ensure you get a convenient slot. Better be out of pocket than miss a holiday!

Sailings were only supposed to have been suspended for a couple of days but they still haven't restarted. You have to wonder if they ever will and if they do whether they will get enough bookings to make them viable (given that they weren't before all of this started).

A friend who lives just outside Dover says they are using Operation Stack as there is quite a backlog of trucks trying to get on P&O etc.

I was a day earlier! Booked my day trip to the St Nicks. Perhaps £12.50 return should have been a warning!

I prefer Seafrance as the racks for the bikes much better than the shitty blue rope or manky diesil soaked straps on P&O...

Book your train tickets now for 2012.

If Sea France sinks beneath the waves, I guess there will be a queue.... :D
