Right, I've searched the forum (as best I can), followed the sticky and am close to reverting back to my 660!

I've had the Nav 5 a week, so be gentle with me!

When using the Nav 5 on the bike in Map View, the screen doesn't show any map data/roads, although the road heading is displayed at the top of the screen.
The image on screen appears as though the bike is riding on (to quote The Beatles) a sea of green!
I'm presuming the map data isn't installed or imported correctly.

I've downloaded the CN Europe 2016. 10 map to my P.C and then installed it to the Nav 5 using the install map function in BaseCamp.
If I go to myMaps on the Nav 5 itself, the CN Europe NTU 2016.10 3D map is ticked, as is the Europe DEM map yet BaseCamp only shows the Nav 5 as having the Europe Dem map, as shown below...

I've tried transferring a route from BaseCamp to the unit but can't find where its gone!

I think you are correct in your assumption that the maps are not installed on the device

To install them you need to do it through Garmin express as opposed to base camp you can do this in GE to either the devic, computer or both I recomend doing them independently.

If that fails then plug the device in and open it up on the computer and find the file called gpsrom ( or something like that) and delete it then re install from garmin express

I would advise caution in doing this delete bit and avoid it if you can ( there is a thread on here somewhere about it)

Have you got a memory card in the device as the mapping is too large for the device on its own

I've got a 32GB card in it.

I initially installed the 2016.10 map using Express then tried installing via BC after that failed to work & after reading forum comments.

I've also tried deleting the gmapprom file & starting from fresh.
The BC image shown appears to show 2 SD cards.
What's that about?

the DEM (Digital Elevation Model) map is not really a map it contains the data that produces 3d shaded terrain, it looks to me like you dont have the map installed on the unit, not that familiar with the nav 5, I dont know if there is enough room on the internal storage to take all of europe, but you should be able to send all of europe to the sd card via base camp providing it is actually in base camp and unlocked.

That's what I thought but I can see the map is in "myMaps" on the device and its ticked!

I originally installed it to the SD card named Nav 5 (see pic) but have subsequently installed it to the internal using BC.

the CN Europe NTU 2016.10 3D is not a map as such its just got the info for all buildings and the like. you need to install the actual map as in CN Europe NTU 2016.10 and that is the one that is displayed in the top left box in your picture of basecamp. it will not have 3d at the end, but will have other letters not sure what but not 3d. it will show up as something like this City Navigator Europe NTU 2016.10 - Map+HT+PA+P,

Thanks for that.

The map appears to have installed correctly, on the 3rd attempt. I can now see the gmapprom file on the device, beneath the "Internal Storage" folder. I've plotted a route & will try it tomorrow.

Interestingly though, when trying to view the Nav 5 on the JaVaWa Device Manager app, it no longer shows up! The message "No manageable Garmin devices or SD Cards detected" is displayed.

Have you checked the maps in the settings of your device (forget about bc and Garmin express at this point)?

If it's new I wouldnt faff about too much just send it back to where it came from (use your 660 to navigate :augite
