Off to get a Seagate 500GB external storage drive this weekend. Would like some info/help thanks. Is it possible to send all my Garmin maping programs to it, the ones you load up to do routes etc. It would free up a lot of space on my old desk top pc. Have been told it will only store files like pictures, documents etc not programs.

Thanks

It will store anything you want it to, progs included.....but you can't just transfer the program across by copying the folder from the 'c' drive , you have to uninstall it and reinstall it with the new drive selected as it's install drive.

Programs have to be entered into the registry when they are installed, and the registry has to know where to look for the files it needs to start that prog.

As above. I keep only my office and work software on the PC with all other things (i tunes, garmin mapsource etc) on the seagate drive. Also keep all the music, photos and miscellaneous files on there as well. I keep my open working files on the desktop and nothing else.

just a word of warning, i had a seagate 500gb and one of my kids (quite gently) knocked it over whilst it was running

it completely buggered it, all data irrecoverable even after i had sent it to 4 different data recovery companies

be careful with it
