Has anybody fitted one of these kits to their R?

I'm struggling to see the difference between their standard kit and their 'sport/touring' kit and have emailed them asking the question but just wondered if anybody has fitted one of their (three) kits and has any comments good or bad?

Cheers
Andres

I got an email today and to summarise the three kits they offer can be summed up as follows:

  • The standard kit is most similar to the shape of the KTM ‘R’ seat
  • The Sport/Touring kit has a more ‘dished’/bucket shape to the rider’s part of the seat
  • The high seat is higher (1") at the rider’s part of the seat making it almost flat (like an off road seat)

Now to decide between the standard or high seat.

Can anybody recommend a good seat covering service, Id only feck it up if I tried fitting the kit :blast

I can't help! I'm reasonably happy with the seat ... it does get pretty rock hard after about 5 hours, but being a tough manly sort of guy .... I just man up and get on with it :D

Cookie might know .... :P

Me too if I'm honest, no complaints - just fancied a change and I think I like the idea of an extra inch (don't we all :D ) for less leg bend; also, I reckon it'd look cool in a HP2 bench seat sort of way and as you know, looks are everything! ;)

i know something, but not about Seat Concepts.

they don't look as nice as stock, but the two piece PP seat is much more comfy.

softer on top, firm underneath, flatter and noticeably taller than stock S, let alone R + they mount in high or low positions. high feels seriously tall to me. gives a great riding position, but i'm on tippy toes with preload on Comfort!

so in short (see what i did there?), Giles is probably right to cast aspersions about my manliness :)

I've actually bought the reworked two piece seat off nice'n'fat today Cookie..........

Plan being that I get my seat rebuilt more like a dirt bike seat (I just need to check I'm ok with the extra inch, if not I'll go for the 'standard' kit); that's for me riding solo.
If Amanda is ok with it then all the better and I'll re-sell the two piece seat. If she's not then I'll fit the two piece seat for those times she's on the back :)

Rosy didn't like the standard two piece seat .... because the pillion seat was sort of rounded, she felt constantly off balance and had to work hard - almost like a gyn ball. She much prefers the very stable feel of the flat plank one piece ...

Amanda said she preferred the 'plank' seat on the R too..........however, if you remember the story of how she lied about liking the bike (so that I'd buy one, bless her) when she went for her test ride on my friends R I'm taking anything she says with a pinch of salt :D We'll see....................

..................ah well, just ordered the 'standard' seat in the end so fingers crossed. It's one of the few bikes they do a complete seat for so that's what I ordered :)

I'll now have three seat options to play with; KTM seat, two pice seat and Seat Concepts seat  Amanda better like one of them :blast

I'll report back......

I still have the std. Pillion seat. I offered to get a PP pillion same as the front, but Angi likes it as is. I agree with giles though, it looks all rounded and odd.

She's not been on the std. R seat at all yet.

So, to recap, I ordered the 'standard' seat in the end. Complete with seat base (which is not usually an option with Seat Concepts). I was expecting the base to be a KTM one....... it's a very good copy of one but defo not an OEM KTM base).

Looks wise I think I just about prefer the KTM original but the Seat Concepts is growing on me.

The rider's part is a little bit longer with very slightly less of a scallop into the pillion part which makes the pillion portion slightly smaller but should give me more room to move around and with less of a being pushed into the tank. It's also wider at the junction of the rider/pillion part which should spread the load a bit and from sitting on it in the garage makes it feel taller as it spreads your legs very slightly more although it's slightly narrower towards the front. You can just see the difference in the curve from the next picture.

Next up is to try it out. Tomorrow is a busy day so that'll have to wait until Sunday............I'll report back then :)

So........200 miles today on the bike, my thoughts are;

The seat is a bit firmer - this is good. It also feels like it needs to 'break in' a wee bit.
The seat is slightly wider - I can 'just' flat foot the bike now where as it was easy before.
Comfort - well, I was perfectly comfortable all day. No issues and it felt like my weight was being spread over a slight larger area (the extra seat width?) but then again I'd have been perfectly comfortable all day on the standard seat.

So, in conclusion, slightly more comfy (maybe?), looks that are growing on me but I still really like the standard seat and, er, that's it I guess.

Worth the money? Not on the basis that it's a great improvement in comfort, no. If you want a very well made, custom seat that's a bit different then I guess yes..............

I found the standard seat to be a little too firm. After 50 - 60 miles I started to get the sore ass syndrome. I tried one those tie on sheep skin rugs but that didn't make much difference. I then tried the Airhawk seat which I had used before on different bikes but this didn't feel right on the 1190r. I finally went for the Corbin custom seat.

I think the seat looks good but it is the expensive option at £500. The seat is definitely more comfortable which you would expect for that sort of money. It's wider and spreads the load of my large ass quite nicely. The only problem is that because the seat is wider it does make it a little more difficult to put your feet down flat and I am 6' 2" with a long leg length.

Hope this is of some interest.

Could you tell me if the power parts two piece seat is the same height in low position compared
To the stock seat in high position
On a 1290sa?
And does the heating work?

On an S the PP seat is about the same height in low position as the stock seat in high. However, I reckon it's slightly softer, so once you're on it could be about the same.

The one I have came missing a few bits, so I never wired it up. A heated seat on these bikes seems a bit unnecessary really :)

She lied after my test ride??? How rude!

She didn't lie about you getting the front airborne at three figures with her on the back though....... :D

Just as an update which may be of some interest;

I now have Amanda's arse fully happy on the back of the bike at last. This has involved the modified two piece seat I bough from fat'n'fast off here. The pillion seat is a good inch to two inches higher than standard (it's hard to tell exactly as the foam is quite soft). Amanda can now see clearly over the top of my lid which she likes. Also, the higher seat coupled with lowered pillion pegs means her legs have less of a bend - she reckons it's now just as comfy, if not more so, as my old GS and she's very happy (assuming she's not lying again! ;) ).
The down side is the riders seat has softer foam than stock too so it's less comfy for me but apparently that's not important as long as Amanda is happy

The SC seat is definitely breaking in and I'm finding the comfort increasing (or maybe my arse is just getting used to it?) but my initial comments still stand; it's dead comfy, well made and looks a bit different but not significantly more comfy than the standard plank seat so not really worth the extra money IMO. If you've got a fatter arse then maybe the harder foam and wider seat will make more of a significant difference :nenau
