Can anyone tell this short arse if its possible to get a lower seat or reduce the seat height on the GS1150. With the standard height of 32"+, and inside leg of under 31" and no possibility of vertical growth, I don't want to be on "tip-toes"

Any ideas? :augie

( I had a GS1200, and the lower seat and weight helped the confidence)

Many thanks, Phil

29" inside leg here and few problems, make sure the seat is in the high front low rear position.

There are ...

... a number of options available, the least radical of which are;

1 - A low seat, plenty about, put a wanted add on here and register a search on eBay

2 - Low (short) shocks, more expensive than 1 but again readily available second hand.

3 - Adjustable paralever arm, unknown quantity and normally used to lengthen the wheelbase rather than shorten it.

4 - Cuban heel boots; make you look like a prat but Daytona do boots for 'ladies' with raised soles on the inside.

5 - Have your seat reprofiled by a local upholsterer; cheap and effective alternative to option 1

6 - Eat loads more pies; most of us have gone down this latter route.

As said, make sure the seat is in its "low" position.
You can either have a custom, lower seat made or buy a Sargent seat which is lower and more comfortable. If you decide to get the OEM seat lowered,PM me because i've got an OEM seat with a torn cover and i want a good stock seat.Deals to be done.:thumb

I would try and live with the standard seat before lowering it. I looked at a lowered seat for my GS when I first bought it and I was lucky to be able to try it before I bought it. It made the bike feel totally wrong, you were sitting in the bike rather than on it. I've had the GS a few years now and have the seat on the high setting and I've got a 29" inside leg and have no problem. I just slide my arse over on the seat a bit and can get my foot flat on the floor.

Corbin seat

I've a 29" inside leg and with the standard seat on the lowest setting I found that it was a bit of a stretch to meet the ground with a foot.
I changed to a Corbin seat for the comfort and found, that while it is higher and wider, I'm now able to slide across the seat and firmly plant a foot.

Low seat for GS1150

Thanks for the useful suggestions. I didn't know there was the option of a low seat for the 1150.

However the suggestion to eat lots of pies is a great idea (they all taste of chicken anyway)

29" inside leg here. 3 GS's so far and no (well, not many....) problems. No low seat needed on any of them.

4 - Cuban heel boots; make you look like a prat but Daytona do boots for 'ladies' with raised soles on the inside.
QUOTE]

The Ladies ones are called ladystars, but they only do them in smaller ladylike sizes, they then become Mstars up to about 10's, and are as unisex as any other boot.

My other half has the ladystars and swears by them, they take a bit of breaking in, but then they all do, Ive got new daytonas and compared to the old pair they are solid!!

And as for looking a prat... not sure you look any different to wearing the std daytona boot, they're all pretty much the same. IMHO worth every penny, will outlast anything like Sidi 3 or 4 times over.

Trouble with lowering the seat is that the pegs can feel too high. I reckon lowered shocks are the way to go, although with a 30" inside leg my 1100 is fine, even with my non soggy Wilbers shocks (standard length), just slide off the seat a bit if you need to put a foot flat on the deck.
