Hi, I have a lowered suspension GS AND a low seat. I am trying to work out what the height (floor to top of seat) would be for a normal seat if I replaced mine with said normal seat. Anyone got the measurements handy?
Trying to reduce the height difference (and buffeting) of my pillion due to the lowness of my seat...

Nirvana I know...

Have you fiddled with your screen settings as I ride a GSA and the difference between me and pillion is pretty vast, but the pillion suffers no adverse effects.

Yes, and have just purchased, yet to try though, a vario extendable screen. My pillion is a whole head taller than me and gets pissed off on the m way with me! I can really feel for them as I am tucked up on my low suspension and low seat behind the screen and they are a head above! There must be at least 20 cm difference. PS my wife is also taller than me!

about 20mm from looking at my low seat compared with my normal seat

I'm going to bite, how tall are you and hows talls your passenger,l as I'm thinking your screens not right for your riding positions?

I'm 5 6" and the misses is 5 2" and we are fine with just a low seat on my GSA and she never gets any buffeting even though I'm balls right on the tank and she's a good foot behind me with all that open space between us.

I am 5.65 feet . she is 5.8. My seat is so low...20mm. is that on a normal |GS or lowered one? I have played with screen settings as wel. Pointing more at me, straight up..she keeps moaning of being blasted! And the worst is I can't swap places to see as she doesn't ride

In that case I would look for Adv screen more adjustment and should sort out problem. Bit like riding behind barn door but if it works :nenau Or before forking out that sort of dosh have a test ride on a adv with your seat and see how the pillion is affected.

What about a screen extender, like the one Touratech sells:

Got one of these on my GSA, thanks to a recommendation from Bilks - a revelation :thumb2

Why do you need lowered suspension and a lowered seat :nenau

I'm a similar height to you and ride a standard bike with the seat in the lower position. My GF is the same height and sits a bit higher but it ain't a problem. Your other half will sit way higher because of your set up and you'll only fix it for her by having to look through the screen - which will be crap.

Put a standard seat back on it and get used to it - and then think about the screen. At your height a GSA screen will be too tall IMO

thanks for all replies: I am thinking of changing to a normal seat, but don't want to pay out till I can work out the height difference between rider and pillion on a lowered bike with low seat and a lowered bike with normal seat. Can someone tell me/show me what the side profile is of low bike and a normal seat so I can see what difference there is between rider and pillion seat.
If it's a closer match (much) I will look for a normal seat.

ive put the heights there,

if you still dont know i suggest you visit a dealer

The adventure pillion seat is lower than the plain GS. The adventure rider seat is higher than the plain GS.

As I said earlier, I have both seats - normal and lowered. The difference between is 20mm approx which ties in with the BMW data above which says its 30mm

Just been out to the garage and as far as I can see with my passenger seat off the bike, there is a good 150mm height difference between the lowered seat and the pillion seat so I cant see that 30mm max is going to make much difference. You are welcome to ride over and borrow my normal seat for a day but tbh I dont think its the answer. Maybe you should think RT or maybe a replacement pillion

Superb

Thanks, looked into replacement pillions but search function said I had to wait 15 seconds..
I think you are right, so I am looking at an RT, Norge and a K 1200GT. Not ridden the K yet. Loved the RT and the Norge was wel different..pity they don't have all the RT options though. Me thinks the RT is a do it all bike for me. Thanks guys, swap anyone?

Lowest cost is to visit a BMW dealer and try the various seats on your bike.

You don't need both feet flat on the floor and are actually safer with only balls of feet down as you can more easily swing a leg as the bike rolls forward. With a really low seat the rider has to lift the whole leg from the hip. That's hard work takes a finite time and can unsettle the balance.

Check out the goons on ultra low choppers and ask if they look comfortable or in control at car park speeds. Road speeds are an entirely different issue.

If the issue is getting the pillion aboard safely, consider an extending side stand. Rider climbs on, uses side stand extended with minimal lean while pillion climbs on. The long stand means no hassle righting the bike for riding away.

In this situation a fixed block under the stand is no help because a safe lean onto the stand is too much when the rider only needs additional stability for a minute or two.
