Seat height

Hi

I bought a new lower frame version of the 1200 this year and find it fine, with standard height seat. This gives benefit of keeping a good angle at the knee for comfort.I get both feet flat on the ground. I am 5'6" with 29.5" inside leg.

Also test road the new 650 which works well if you want a racier engine and chain drive. Nothing like as comfortable on long trips though.

I would echo the comments made about weight. The new GS1200s are significantly lighter than previous 1100/1150 models and I would not have bought one of those for that reason.

For what it's worth the 1200 offers such ease of use (and gets better the more you ride) that I wish I had bought one before now.

Good luck!

test ride an HP as well it'll make 1200's, 1150's and 650's seem very low....

or get a custom shock fitted...

1100 or 1150 - with either a Sargent seat (which is 1" lower as standard) or have the stock seat re-upholstered and lowered to your own spec.

might be an idea to fit bar risers/set backs to bring the bars a little closer so its not so much of a stretch.

and there you go. easy peasy.

Seat Height

I just bought a low suspension '09 GS last week. It is the factory option. Comes with a low seat, and shorter shocks. I have a 30" inseam, and am 5'7"

I tested a regular sized GS with a low seat. But the low suspension works better if you want your feet on the ground vs. being on your tippy-toes.

I now have 750 miles on the bike, in 4 days of ownership. I am very glad I went for the low suspension.

I also have an '06 RT, but the GS is more fun to ride. This is my first GS, but I can see why guys fall in love with these things!
