Seat Lowering Service?

Does anyone know where i can get a seat cut down and lowered? It's a new seat so I want somone to carefully remove the cover and cut down the foam and recover using the original so it matches the rear section.

Also must ne near to manchester or cheshire or derbyshire or s.yorks.

Also while you wait service preferable.

I've heard of somewhere near Loughborough that might be possible??

I did the seats on my wifes hornet & then her cbr and bothe came out quite well.
I unpicked the staples and peeled back the cover, then used an electric carving knife to cut the foam. Tydied it up with some coarse sand paper and stuck back and re stapled.
Job done.
I had a seat done on my GSA by a "profesional" and it was worse than my work.

Speak to a dealer, they usually use someone for this kind of thing. I was put in touch with a chap whose main job was recovering sofas etc but did this on the side. He did as described by Boxertools for £40.

Dunno what bike this is being done on but if it's a GS then remember that lowering the seat by chopping out the foam will make it really uncomfortable and a genuine pain on longer journeys. Many people complain about the standard seat anyway so reducing the padding is not going to improve the situation.

Have you looked at the possibility of lowering the suspension or fitting smaller wheels? Try a search on it as I know of a number of guys who have lowered their bikes without sacrificing what comfort there is.

Advice wanted

Right I have had my 1150 a couple of mths now and although I can ride it fine I have decided to have the seat foam trimmed out to make it lower so have much better control of the bike on standstill or manouvering backwards, want to be 100% safe on it especially on trips away.
Anyway, I dont want to lower the bike itself as some suggest and have opted for the seat alteration.
There are a fair few people over here that will do it so finding a person to do it is not a problem but what I want to know is who has had it done, what is the maximum amount of sponging that you can remove and how uncomfy does it make, cheers in advance

most uncomfortable can feel the hard part of the seat

thats why we want one thats not been lowered

he has a 35 inch inside leg so is tall for sure

It's worth bearing in mind that you could remove most of the Sponge and replace it with a 25mm silicone pad, this will lower seat as requested but with the pad having less give than thin sponge you shouldn't give up any comfort.

Also worth mentioning is that it's the width of the seat that cause's us of short leg to have problems paddling the beast about, it maybe worth to see if you can get your hands on an old seat to remove most of the side foam as an experiment

I really do live too far away for these good services, not much open over here yet, once New Yr comes and everyone is back to work inc me I will try and see what a local upholsterer can do for me first otherwise this Tony Archer sounds promising, wonder if he will do a postal job, let me send it and then send it back

Try Shirlaws of Cowes, years ago i had a Honda CBR 600 seat recovered/re-foamed by them, i don't know any contact details, or if they are still in business, but it's worth a try.

Little beemer, can u get in touch with me, i have a friend who has a low seat on his 1150, and he said you can try it, then you will now how low you need a seat to be, it may be a better option to get a s/h low seat, but still have the option of the standard seat too.

Just hasd GSA seat lowered as much as possible, sculpted and shaped. Really top quality job.
Interesting to learn that the gell insers are next to useless, but would have sold me one if I really insisted. Instead made it as low as possible taking into my weight, while remaining comfortable. Also made it slimmer which helps with the height problem.
I like to have ability to have both feet on ground (did on GS), but have to put up with just Balls on the ground with the GSA (and that's painful )

Cheers Gavin for the call earlier, popped up and borrowed his seat, will give it a go tomorrow.
Only thing is is that if I like it I will want to try and get hold of an already manufactured low seat and that is gonna prove hard to find as been looking, can get a new one for £146 which I just cant do and seems silly, must be someone out there with one they will sell to me...anyone
