hi all

I am sure this debate has gone on before but what are people's thoughts on gel inserts or re-shape new foam.

I was convinced that I wanted gel inserts before by trip into europe in september but having spoken to a local seat refurbisher he was of the opinion that new foam / re-shap was the better way to go.

So what have been your experiences and I do not want to know about sheep skins

thanks
Grahame

I'm sure if I was a seat refurbisher (local or otherwise) I would tell you the same thing.

I had a gel job done on my previous bike Varadero 1000, over standard, it was an improvement more noticeable on long tours, but I now have a 1200GSA that is at that same comfort level as standard. I would consider a Sargent this time in preference to the gel just to try the difference.

thanks for your replies

the local co will do the gel inserts he was just saying that in his opinion gel is not worth the money but is happy to supply if I want them

I used a guy called Marty in York T/A SmartRRR's google and try him, does good advice also.

Re gel inserts

I have a DR850 (Yes, really - slightly overbored) - the largest single cylinder motorcycle in the UK, & always found that I got a numb bum after 125 miles without a break.
I sent the seat off & had it re-covered and fitted a gelpad. (Rider only)
Afterwards, I could cover a full tank of fuel without discomfort (240 miles)
On one occasion I covered 1040 miles in 15 hours on it.
Speaks for itself.

I've just had a seat lowered on my GSA - this was a rush job as I was going to Scotland the next day.

We talked about having higher density foam / gel inserts done at a later time - but after 1500 miles i'm going to stick with what he has done.

Have a chat with a guy called Tony Archer in Huddersfield.

He did my seat while I waited and only charged me £30 :thumb2
