Hi all,

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, I did a search and it came back saying my search term of 'seat' was too broad in the 1200 GS Watercooled section, so.....

Can anyone give any recommendations/thoughts regarding replacement seats for the 1200GSA WC? I currently have the OEM standard seat which I run in the lower of the two settings, which is great for everything except long trips. I could do with a little more comfort, but don't want to go down the Airhawk/sheepskin route as would prefer the seat permanently in place.

Anyone got any experience with this model Sargeant/Touratech or any others that I haven't stumbled across yet. Do BMW themselves sell an added 'comfort' seat?

Any advice/thoughts would be greatly received. Off on a bigger trip in July, so want a little added comfort. I'm 5"11 and 12stone so not a big ass, just need a bit more comfort after breaking my lower spine and hip 12 months ago.

Cheers.

I don't know why I didn't just order a kit from Seat Concepts (I have this on a Yamaha Tracer and it's great) instead I wasted a lot of money buying a BMW "Exclusive" seat. After that mistake I bought an Intermediate kit from SC and it's now all day comfortable. The nice thing is they offer them in 4 different heights, Intermediate being about the same height as stock only with the front raised to do away with the forward slope into the tank. The bucket is a little over 2" wider because the width is effective to the outer edge whereas the stock seat foam angles down at the sides beyond 11". The front portion is about the same as stock so it's just as easy getting your feet to the ground.

FWIW I just spoke with SC and they said they are actually working to get a dealer or distributor in the UK to import their products. They have one in Australia that's working out well and they ship a lot of seats there now.

I tried a Sargent seat but found it too wide, so it dug into my thighs, and it was far too hard, although it was the low version.

I reverted back to my stock seat and it's bedded in nicely, or I've just got used to it, but I find it all day comfy now.

Yeah, I've given up hope of my stock seat being all day comfy having covered 36,000 miles on my bike in just over a year its still great for journeys under 1hr, but after that I start to feel the pain. Interesting point about the width, not something I had thought would be a factor, so good to know, I'll keep it in mind. Thanks!

Interesting, never heard of these guys, will take a look at their site, thanks for the heads up!

Update - just checked their site, $355 dollars including shipping I make that £244.00, but then guess I'd get stung the VAT on customs, which would be £292, so compatible with others out there. Will put it on my consideration list.

I have used Sargent and Corbin seats, the latter being my favourite. I have also used and like air hawks, but right now I'm seriously considering a sheepskin for long journeys in hot places.

My Sheepskin "Lammy" is very comfy and widely regarded in the south of England, it even has its own strap so it don't fall off!

I bought the BMW Exclusive seats and they are great. I didn't think they were much better on a couple short rides when I first got them but then I did a long trip with 11 hour days on the bike and they were brilliant.

Nigel, where did you get it and do you take it off or cover it when it rains ?

I have a low Sargent on my bike. As Sven said it is quite wide at the front which makes getting your feet down a bit harder than on the standard height BMW seat. However, I had a local upholsterer narrow down the nose of the seat and that's helped a bit. I don't think this one is as comfortable as the low Sargent that I had on my Twin Cam GS but maybe it just needs to be broken in a bit more. Again, as Sven said, it is quite a hard seat but in my experience and my arse's hard is much preferable to overly soft seats which collapse through time and leave you effectively sitting on the seat pan.

The Sargent seat does it for me. Can't say I've noticed the width of it

I noticed that you opted for the all carbon fibre and not the gripper top. How does the carbon fibre top surface compare with the OEM cover in terms of slipperiness?

Slightly slippier than stock Marius.

So I have bitten the bullet so to speak and ordered a Sargent. I've not had any trouble with standover with the stock seat and can use it in high and low, so figure I'll be Ok with the Sargent, but time will tell once it arrives I guess. Thanks for all the responses, the fact Sargent had the seat I wanted in stock and able to dispatch quickly sealed it along with some decent responses from their support team.

Hopefully it'll be comfier riding from Wednesday on.

Interested to hear how you're finding the Sargent seat as I'm tempted to get one myself. Finding the stock seat a right pain in the arse on long rides. :)

I have a set of brand new Exclusive seats for sale. PM me if you're interested.

IMHO nothing comes close to this. 12 years old. Africa, Asia and all of Europe in comfort !
Alaskan Buttpad. Had to cut it down slightly to fit the GSA.
