I'm going to take the plunge and fit a Sebring 'Y' piece AND leave the standard can on. I also intend to keep the Lamda sensor.

What do I do with the code plug if anything?

Regards,

Muddy.

Nothing

I've just the same thing and asked the same question. After much trawling of postings the overall response seemed to be leave the code plug alone. Someone had spoken to the engineers at Rainbow and they said the plug stays in until (if) you fit a BBchip or similar, otherwise leave it alone. I got the same response from my dealer and from Bracken when I asked.

I fitted the Y piece some time ago and it made a significant improvement in the mid range, I have now fitted a Sebring Titanium can and I have to say it does seem to have improved it even further, the 6th gear is now much more flexible than it was and makes it more usable, a definate improvement and it sounds great.

Leave the O2 sensor in and the code plug.

'Y' piece

Thanks for the response guys.

However, (I had a feeling I'd be writing this), there are some posts that suggest taking the code plug out all together.

If anyone else feels like contributing to this one, please feel free.

Leave it in

Because if you take it out there will be no fuel mapping present in the Motronic as the code plug is merely a jumper that selects one of nine fuel maps. It will run a bit rich and you will use more fuel.

If you fit a BB power chip then this chip has its own fuel maps and then the code plug can be removed.

So leave it in.

Mine has Y-piece, Remus Revolution, NO CODE PLUG and goes like hell. Does 41-42 mpg wringing its neck!

You can try removing the code plug to see if the default map makes it better or worse, but remember to reset the Motronic by removing and replacing fuse 5, then opening the throttle fully twice with the ignition on.

You could even make a short jumper lead up to replace the code plug so you can experiment with the different maps available. The ADVrider site had details of which jumper connections represented which map - try a search. I have made one but not yet tried it.

plug

mine has never had a plug from day one, which is a bit strange
it was a german import don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Haven't been able to track down the link to ADVrider site regarding the different plug connections.

Anyone have the link?

Cheers.

Mike.

'Y' piece fitted

I took the day off today and fitted my 'Y' piece. I've left the original silencer on and there's a definite improvement in sound. The whole procedure is very straight forward (thanks to a few tips from the forum).

I've re-fitted the Lamda sensor, removed and replaced Fuse 5 and then opened the throttle twice with the ignition on. Easy.
I noticed that there is a very small leak between the 'Y' piece and silencer but I was expecting this as I didn't use any kind of sealer, just clamped it all up.

I let it warm up and gave it a few hand fulls to around 4500rpm and yup, a couple of decent backfires! I haven't taken it on the road yet (pissing down) so I don't know how annoying it's going to be. I've left the CCP in.

Would I really benefit from sealing the 'Y' piece-silencer interface to reduce the backfiring? I'm not convinced (yet) as the leak is really small.

Depends on whether you like the backfiring or not. Personally, I love it, especially when backing off in tunnels :D

I went down to the local exhaust centre this morning and they gave me, for free, a tube of exhaust sealing compound. I've sealed the 'Y' piece to the silencer and its fixed the leak.

I can still provoke a (now smaller) backfire. I'm not bothered that much about it unless its going to do some harm in the long term. I still haven't taken her on the road; it may not even do it under 'normal' riding..

This CCP stuff is driving me bonkers...

just had a customer of mine come to my place of work this afternoon - he owns an R1150R - and has been positively spouting off about the bonuses of removing the CCP, especially as (he says) that this will help cure my surging and stop the bike running lean.

I have an '02 Adventure with Remus Y piece and K&N filter fitted back in January. Just been serviced and the surging was spotted.

Am a bit worried about long term harm to my beloved GS running lean, but do not want to go back to a standard, sewing machine sound and boring old sensible CAT stuff. I want fun on my GS, scaring old grannies and alarming R1 riders.

This guy knows his eggs, I'm certain. I can see his point as well regarding all this CAT stuff. Has done all of these mods on his own bike and is convincing me to do the same. But I am getting lots of conflicting reasons on here as to which way to go.

I want to try taking it out and I understand the procedure to follow on doing so. Is it the same procedure if I want to re-install the CCP?

PS: was going to fit a Revolution end can tomorrow. Anybody got one? Good Bad? Spend the money on a night out with a couple of Thai lady-boys??

Let me know.

(but not about lady-boys)

Rugbug,

My Adv surged with a standard exhaust system. I put in a Y piece. It continued to surge. It's been run with & without the coding plugs. It still surges. It's having a Techlusion chip fitted. I'll let you know what happens......

Hmm...

Would be V useful to know.

How on earth can a standard bike be surging though?

Funny, but when I was chatting away to a Pan owner last week he kept on mention something called Be Em Troubleyou.

Wonder what he meant?

Errm, loads of them do. Do a search on 'surging', settle down for a good few hours reading..............
