I want to get a secure mount for a zumo 550 for a 1200 GSA. Anyone got any recommendations?
Being lockable is very important, don't want to have to take it off every time, and preferable mounted above the clocks.
Is this one any good? http://www.touratech.com/shops/008/product_info.php?products_id=7691

Also, am I right in assuming all 550's have version 9 on them?
Thanks guys

All Zumos have been supplied with Version 9 software from therr release last year.

Personally I don't see a lockable mount as a high priority as the unit is so easy to fit and install on it's cradle. Now I know this could well be the very reason you would want a lockable mount but what I'm getting at is I simply take it off and put it in my pocket when required.

The Touratech mount appears to be for the handlebars rateher than above the clocks. Mottorad Concepts excellent product has already been mentioned, my choice was Migsel's solution which personally I find gives a secure platform for the cradle with lots of adjustment to meet the needs of different riders.

Even with a lockable mount having the Zumo on display could attract some unwanted attention to your bike. I prefer to remove it and either lock it in the luggage or pop in my pocket out of sight.

I have a Zumo 550 and I use the standard mount. The mount is great but as earlier said its very steel friendly.

I will use the standard mount and just take the thing off but i have a question...

Do you have to use the security screw to securely hold the gps in its holder, is it any chance that the plastic handle flops up and let the zumo free?

Anyone had any problem with that? I would like to rely on the mount without the screw because the screw is kind of a pain in the ass when you do short stops here and there.

Same here. :)

This can be interesting. From AdvRider: "The thing is, my thumper must vibrate that screw down as I ride because I always have to unscrew it to take the Zumo off the bike. "

Never happend to me, but I ride boxer, not thumper. :augie

I've found the screw can tighten up on my GS12, just a little bit but had to get the weird screwdriver thing out once. On the garmin-supplied handlebar mount but I've moved it to a migsel mount just this week as I preferred to have it in line with the rest of the dials.

dB.
