I've had a couple of good quotes but like to feel I've shopped around.

After almost a year since it's release to the UK I'm finding it quite strange that a few companies have not got the R1200GS on their system, and without a code cannot quote:

CIA
Virgin (who sell CIA - so that makes some sense)
OnlineBikeQuote

Others seem to be in the £630+ mark for my whilst Motorcycledirect have managed £460.

I realise that the cheapest may not necessarily be the best but.....

correction

onlinebikequote.co.uk do have it on their system.

ChoiceQuote do't

[but reports on the quality of service vary

It seemed a roughly even split on that thread about it I thought, but given that people are more likely to report a bad experience than a good one I'd probably still give Devitts (i.e. BMW) a try.

I think BMW insurance wanted £380 from me... Foreign hooligan with 2 years NCB and a ban (speed camera ~ £50 fine + 3 points which the can't issue due to foreign license)... Good post code, bike garaged....

... I even moved and they didn't want any extra money for that... so I'm 'appy chappy..!

Devitt was the broker my dealer directed me to

For the BMW scheme, at the time of ordering the bike, they were £100 more than the average quote at the time.

I've just tried them again and they are coming up cheapest. I guess another lap of the best will be my next move and then decide.

Thanks for the words guys.

BMW wasn't so good for me (26, 5yrs NCB, no points (at the time!)), they were twice the price of H&R Insurance, my current broker, been with them for 3 years running now and the always manage to outquote everyone else by some hell of a margin (the primary reason being they take your Car NCB into account and thus calculate the risk on the individual more than the vehicle)

i just got a quote through H&R 31 3 years ncb £322 including rac

they are at www.insurance2000.co.uk if thats any help. They do do online quotes but i found that when i rang them they were able to get lower than the online quote quoted but they put me on hold long enough that i probably paid the difference in phone bills :)

i used to think my ducati insurance company was unbeatable.... but it was beaten just by BMW (i traded my strada in for a 1200 last year).

but BMW is way ahead........ i can go off road in the price.

and believe me, ducati insurance are good for price and service.

ps....... be weary....... the real BMW insurace only work week days and pass over calls at the weekend to some sharks who wanted me to buy an additional off road insurance and are not so cheap for the road.

BMW has just quoted me £464.53:

Living in Dorset;
Garaged;
3 years NCD;
20,000 miles/year;
Insured value: £11,500 (lots of extras);
Fully comp.

They would not insure my ER-5 as they will only accept commuting on the one bike. That is useless to me, I want to commute on both bikes.

Norwich Union (through BMW) quoted me £812.25 for just the GS.

Who insures both bikes for commuting?

Did you phone them up or speak to your dealer? BMW happily covered me for commuting for my GS and fazer on the same policy.

I suggest speaking to the dealer, the people on the phone don't know their arse from their elbow.

BMW cheapest by a mile for me. £285 fully comp 2 yrs NCB, garaged in Essex.

Claims dept works too - I used it twice with the old 650GS. Agree about Devitt's phone department - not too hot, suggest\you go to the dealer.

My dealer only insisted I call the number

- which turned out to be a Devitt agent.

My circumstance:
37 in March, 1yr NCB, Held Licence for 1 year, riding ST1100. Bike will be garaged, immobilised (BMW), at a Colchester post code. I'll carry pillion and occasionally commute. Doing about 10000miles p/a.

BMW/Devitt have come up best in the end £340.16
Second to Direct Choice (Equity Red Star) at £408.22

I took this back to Motorcycledirect, who'd given the best quote until today and who I had the Pan insured with. They couldn't get under £416.

Was on hold for far too long with H&R to be interested even if they beat the price. And it seems the BMW immobiliser is a sticking point in an online attempt with them...... so BMW it is.

Thanks everyone.
