Can someone explain to me how these work ? They've always seemed to stay on an awfully long time before self cancelling, and sometimes now, they don't appear to self cancel at all (not the end of the world admittedly)
But, how do they work, is it on time, distance, or different depending on what speed you're doing ?
Can the settings be changed, or turned on or off?

On my F800 I think it's time, but will experiment

It's a combination of time and distance. If you apply the indicator to turn at a junction but are held up at traffic lights the indicator stays on for a long time - until you have completed the turn. If you signal to leave a motorway travelling at speed then the indicator cancels in less than 300 metres - I know this as I always try to indicate by the 300 metre board but have to re-signal before the slip road.

Perversely, if you forget to cancel in an urban setting it seems to stay on long enough for someone to shout a reminder in the intercom!!

I think I would like an audible warning that the indicator was working to remind me to cancel

They used to fit them to motorbikes thirty years ago....they were so annoying that people disconnected them....

Progress eh ??.......:D

They were known as idiotcators.
I used to get them fitted to my bikes when I was a nipper. The bike shop who fitted them always used to take the mick but that never bothered me.
They were also useful in town as they gave pedestrians an indication that you were there & turning.

Mine used to stop pretty quickly , often before I got to the junction so I had them adjusted by dealer to stay on as long as possible . They could not stop the self cancelling feature completely but they stay on so long now they are effectively manually operated

They were a pain on my 800gsa switching off too soon. I got them adjusted to the max time and were ok. They seem just right on my 12 GSA JJH

The audible indicators were linked to the clutch, so when you pulled in the clutch, they did not sound, so in neutral or sitting with the clutch in at the lights they were silent.

Which initially, till you worked out that as you changed gear as you slow down, you felt there was a problem as then intermittently the sound died.

What are these indicator things you speak of ?

Do i have them ?

Should i use them if I have ?

In Spain, they are purely there to decorate the corners of the cars. They have no other purpose.

On cars they mean:
a) I intend to turn
b) I intend to pull in/out
c) I have turned pulled in/out at some time in the past hour
d) Something else
