Self Servicing

I'm used to servicing my old Africa Twin myself and I'd like to do the same with my 1150GS, Twin Spark if that makes a difference.

I have the Haynes manual to fall back on, but are there any other hints and tips I should know about.
I suppose I'm wondering about the electronic trickery. Does the dealer plug anything in to service the bike or reset anything for example?
I don't want to be feathering the dealers nests any more than I have to.

Hi Dave,

I'm sure the BM dealers have all sorts of gadgetry to plug in.

I have serviced mine myself including the 24k biggie. Everything is very doable and the spark plugs are easier than on the Africa Twin to get at

Valves are supposed to be adjusted or checked every 6k. Mine hav'nt been adjusted for 13k now and when I was at a dealer the weekend they listened and said they sound fine :nenau

The oil filter is recessed into the bottom of the engine where you will need a special oil filter removal tool.... not expensive.

If you kept your AT on the road yourself then the 1150 should be no bother.

ps.... keep your eye on the oil. you have just bought a very low mileage 1150 and mine stopped using oil at 30k  just run in now :bounce1

Thanks, that great to hear.
I've been watching the oil but in 700 miles it hasn't moved yet.
