Here's me, been riding since I was 8 a total of 26 years. Race a ZX6RR and a KTM motard. Owned loads of different road bikes mainly sports.
Now want a road bike that is quik comfy and will last. Almost made my mind up and already had some advice from owners.
Should demo one this week too, tried a KTM950 and it wasn't comfy enough, not sure about finish as I have 2 ktm's already and they hate winter.
Will be only a road bike but I like to travel at a reasonable pace, so how is ground clearance ? Also I like the odd wheelie anyone comment on the suitability for that ?
Anything more I should know ?

I think youve frightened everyone off with these photies.

There is no good selling points for GS,s. Just try one for a while. If it is for you, you will know, Kinda weird things.

I suggest that you spend a couple of days trawling through this forum, you will find everything about everything somewhere.

Oh yes......... Graphitan ones are the fastest and are invisible to radar.

Prepare for lots of comments referring to credit cards and stuff.

As Den says...

Search this place for a while, ask a few pointed questions, get a good long test ride, and enjoy:D

The GS is the Range Rover of the motorcycle world, lot of bikes do somethings the GS does better, but none can do them all as well.

Good Luck :beerjug:

BTW; if you're around 6ft or more (or have long legs) and built on the strong side, consider the GS Adventure, Smoooth Silver being the choice of the discerning.

NO,NO,NO...............

You'll alway's find a Joker or two on here, not least the last two "Persons"...........

Everyone knows (but some won't admit it) that BLACK is THE Colour........:D

Less is always More..........;)

Please do take the comment by Den re. Plastic Melt-down serious !!

thanks I think ;)

If we didn't have snow here today I'd demo one :( Always tomorrow, I'll report back whatever I find :)

GS

Ground clearance? pretty easy to get the thing scraping on the ground, even with Tourances etc on. My old GS11 with BT020s was a piece of cake, they do go a long way over (see pic)

Wheelies too

They can be wheelied but I stopped after replacing my second set of bearings in the shaft in the same year.... Not good for shaft drive bikes apparently...Someone posted this pic here before, but it never hurts to see it again....:D

Got to back CC up on this on black ones are much faster/better dont listen to Den, he's still dazed and confused since losing his facial hair.

On a serious(ish) note go try one out at a dealer, tho a short test ride might not convince you.
A GS is more a bike you have to live with.

Assuming there's some GO to go with the SHOW then I'd say you'll love the GS.

It's fantastic for making progress and the satisfaction of good ride will be down to you and not Mr BHP.

Of course you'll not buy this argument if your more Show than Go :D

Wait a bit

WellCouchie if i were you i`d wait a bit and buy the new 1200 GS.
Apparantly it`s lighter, faster, better handling and of course, more expensive than the 1150.I too tried the KTM 950 and didn`t think it was any quicker than my 1150 Adventure and certainly not as comfy.

the new 1200 is too much money, and if we are all gonna chant that less weight and more power makes a better bike.....well you can see where that will lead us ;)

Are wheelies really hard on shaft drives ? Why ?

Fitzy,

The one I had out last weekend was much quicker that the GS.... Did you try reving your one, they max out at 10,000 rpm not 7,000 you know:D

As for comfort my arse is use to that Touretech seat you sold me so it felt fine to me.
