ok,

So the 1150 is going, to be replaced with either a 12 or a multistrada. Its done 23K, full service, no problems. But the fork brace and the fork lowers are a mess with the usual corrosion problems.

This hasnt really ever bothered me to be honest, but now that im looking to sell the thing I'm thinking that it gives the impression that the whole bike hasnt been cared for. Also, i would be unlikely to part with 5 or 6k for a bike with heavy corrosion...

Any advice? Its well past warranty and stuff like getting the brace powder coated seem way to much effort...

I had to replace the steering bearing on my old 1150, so while I had the front end apart, I stripped all the paint off the brace to reveal the bare metal. It polished up very nicely and looked good. It just needed spraying with one of the protective sprays like ACF50 or Scottoil FS365 to maintain its condition. It wasn't too demanding a job to get the fork legs off either to allow access to the brace.

ah - thanks

I had been thinking about that; did you just wet & dry it and then finish it by hand or did you have a kit? (i was thinking of aiming a port polishing kit at it :) )

A few baubels, some tinsel paper and maybe some fairy lights? ;)

The cheek of it!

Hi cookie,

This might be a little cheeky but! :thumb

I am looking for an 1150. Perhaps we could come to some arrangment where we both get a fair deal financially and you don't have to bother spucing it up!

let me know how you feel.

cheers

Cheers

Cookiemonster,

I'm just round the corner in Long Ditton. I'd be more than happy to help you spruce up your GS. There's a couple of 25 litre drums of AutoGlym motorcycle cleaner, a commercial pressure washer along with more tools than you can shake a stick at in the garage (including full bench grinder polishing setup) and a healthy stock of stainless fasteners. I got the neighbours rather tatty looking yellow GS looking miles better - he had really neglected his.

I'm currently on a R1150R Rockster but considering a change to a 1200GS hence my new registration to this site.
