i'm selling my bike, and the panniers seperatley. For the new buyer to code the locks to his key, do i need to give the buyer a key that currently works with them, or can he remove the locks from the pannier and code to his key without needing my old one. (obvioulsy the panniers will be unlocked when i sell them)

If he needs a key (and i might get one cut anyway as its a bit nicer to sell them ready to use), can most key places do the BMW ones? Never had to get one that shape cut before...

Thanks in advance

Take your panniers to your dealer and ask them to remove them all from the panniers. That should cost about £20. The new owner then takes the locks and panniers to their dealer and they refit them but coded to their key. You don't need to send your key with the locks BTW.

If we are talking about the Vario panniers, the locks are fairly easy to remove yourself - just watch out for the little springs flying everywhere (DAMHIK).

Mine were the GSA ones but it's all the same technology. BTW Marco1964 will be able to tell you how easy it was to to the fit to panniers bit at the end.

On the GSA boxes it's just a case of removing the locks from the barrels with the key inserted and handing tem to the new owner for recoding.

You can't remove the locks with out the key fitted and you need to press down on the final "pin" with a small screw driver to release them, if your in any doubt then get your dealer to to it.
