Sena SMH 10 volume problem..help request

Hi all. Currently on the road so may not have researched this thoroughly, but grateful for any pointers.

We are using Sena SMH10 units. The volume on one unit has dropped so it’s close to inaudible. Pretty sure it’s the unit as we have swapped it from one helmet to the other with the same result.

Note we rode through biblical rains in France 2-3 days ago. Unit appears dry but will try applying some warmth to it.

Any other suggestions please? (Note I have no laptop to hook up the unit for any fault analysis)
 
I run the 10R’s and recently replaced the speakers with the HD version from the 50’s that they now sell as accessories. Much improved clarity and volume which I need ‘cos I’m a bit deaf.

Ha! Cannot connect, says in that case I should look at updating firmware on the unit (which I don’t think I can do without connecting it).

Hey ho, will return it to drying in the sun (if indeed damp got in/has anything to do with the problem)

ISTR there was an app setting on my old 20S that removes a default low-volume preset (which is there presumably to stop hearing damage.)

Perhaps yours has the same ?

I've also had to update firmware several times on all my Sena based kit to get the best out of it.

Or perhaps try this:


The audio solution for me with bike comms was to use in-ear monitors from Ultimate Hearing, a massive improvement over helmet speakers.

Turn the volume up on your phone ;)

Done that a few times on my current 30k

Low volume - with the 30k wound to the max -

Phone on low volume lol


Mind you its feck off loud when you turn it up

Thanks Adam…tried the sena community recommendations…albeit without success. Looks like we’ll be having a lot of one sided conversations during our ride through Spain🙄
 
Simon, is it just music volume or music, intercom and everything?
If it’s just music, then as above, turn the iPhone volume to max while the sena is connected. Also check on the iPhone that it hasn’t limited your volume because it’s worried about your ears.

If it’s everything, could the speakers have moved? That can make a massive difference.
 
Thanks all for the suggestions. Just to recap my original post :

1. The issue relates to the SMH10 units not the helmet equipment including speakers (I deduce this because we have swapped the units and the problem follows the unit in each helmet ie it occurs in both helmets when the suspect unit is fitted)

2. We only use the units for intercom between rider and pillion. Not used for music or GPS.

3. We are on the road so it’s not practical to order anything new.

Appreciate all the suggestions though.

Have you tried updating the firmware?

they have a habit of changing lots of things without telling us
 
So an update and a cry for help!!

Background:
The Sena Device Manager will not recognise either of the 2 SMH 10 units, whether using a Mac or a PC. Now BOTH units are 'dead' - ie they will not switch on even after extensive charging.:cry:

Assessment:
So I cannot do a Firmware Upgrade to resolve the issue.
Nor will the 'Reset' work (when you poke a paper-clip etc into the back to reset). Nothing happens.:unsure:

By way of control, a similar Firmware Upgrade on Jim's 2 Sena S10 units did work successfully.

The request:
So hoping the UKGSER hivemind can come up with a suggested way to overcome this obstacle 🙏🙏🙏🙏
 
mine did that when the remote battery needed replacing. i was in scotland with mates earlier this year and the sound dropped and i couldnt get it up then it cut out completely.

note i did try factory resets x10 / firmware updates etc then a new battery and it worked perfectly.

Thanks Barry but isn’t it odd that 2 units should die at about the same time?
 
Only personal experience but I’ve had to replace both my 10R’s because the soft plastic covers on the control unit cracked and gradually disintegrated. I did a bodge repair on one whilst I was on tour by gluing a piece of bicycle tube over the top.
It may be worth checking yours to see if they are letting water in that way.
I’ve also replaced batteries in the past.
