Sena SMH10 & Midland G7 radio

Anyone know how I connect this lot up?

SHM10 receiving Bluetooth from Zumo 660 which is linked to iPhone 4. How do I connect a Midland G7 radio into this so I can also talk on the radio to another person? I have an uncomfortable feeling that it's not possible

I think you will need a Sena SR10 Bluetooth radio thing to connect the Midland radio, or buy the model of radio with built in Bluetooth.

The bit I think is tricky is that the Zumo and SMH10 can both only accept one Bluetooth connection at a time (I think), hence with the iPhone already attached to the Zumo I assume there is no space for the Sena SR10 or a Bluetooth radio.

The SMH10 has a 3.5mm socket which I assume I could wire the radio into but would that only allow me to hear the person on the other radio rather than speak to them?

If it's anything like the Interphone f4 and Interphone Tribe combo that my m8 was running on last years Euro tour it's a case of having to switch from one to the other using the button on the headset.

Fine when he wanted to talk to me... a royal PITA when I wanted to talk to him, practically back to how it was before with me waving, flashing, beeping trying to get his attention. The Tribe and f4 had serious volume issues, meant to self govern to optimum and did everything but 80% of the time

Quite a few phone calls back to retailer and return with full refund once we were back home.

Hmm. What a pain re Sena SR10. Was hoping to find a £0 workaround but having looked myself, I think you're right and it's the way to go. Looked into a Midland G8 Bluetooth radio for £108 but that just about the same price as the SR10 and the latter offers more flexibility so I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get the SR10.

I emailed Sena a week ago to clarify if they would warranty support their kit in the UK. They have not answered. Makes me somewhat thoughtful about buying more of their kit.

...and just ordered the SR10 and 2-way radio adapter from the US as will be here next week and it's 30% less expensive that way. May regret it but want the 2-way radio function for a bike ride next weekend. Will be curious to see how well it works with Zumo 660 and iPhone 4 linked into it as well. Really hope it's the complete solution.

Sena headset lost sound to one side of helmet headset today after a lot of rain but when I pushed the battery/bluetooth unit in towards helmet, both speakers worked again so hopefully it will be fine. I've added a mod to the mike mount which involves a broken matchstick which I think will work.

SR10 arrived from US today. Very tidy bit of kit. Have tried two combos so far:

- iPhone4 to SR10 to SMH10 - Phone and music comes through well.
- Midland G7 hard wired to SR10, bluetooth to SMH10 - Outgoing voice works but there is delay so seems like one may have to press to talk button, release, then press to talk and then talk or else the first part of your sentence is missed off. It takes a second or two for the SR10 to wake up. I could not hear incoming voice from the third party G7 so will fiddle with this over next few days.

I need to get the Zumo 660 linked into SR10 so I can see if:

1. iPhone4 works OK via the Zumo/SR10 relay
2. Music from Zumo comes through in stereo
3. Midland G7 2-way radios work well with Zumo + iPhone

Also noted, SR10 does not appear to work when it's on charge as in won't transmit or receive from SMH10 headset. That may be me getting in a mess. Also need to fit charging socket to bike.

Have just updated SR10 to latest software too.

Any update on how good the radio works with the bluetooth headset? I'm watching this tread as i'm very intersted in this type of setup, seems good and simple (if it works), bluetooth for phone and pillion comunication, plus the ability to use a radio to speek to mates on a common radio channel? Seems like a good idea! Let me know how it turns out!

Has anyone else got experience using these Sena bluetooth bits? Any good?

The G7 radio works very well through the SR10 and via Bluetooth into the SMH10. I use a Push To Talk button on the SR10 but press it once to wake it up then straight away again then start talking. I've had no problems at all and the sounds clarity is very good (both outgoing and incoming voice). Todays setup also had the iPhone linked into the SMH10 via Bluetooth. Most of the time I run the iPhone via a Zumo 600 and the Zumo 660 linked via Bluetooth to the SMH10 and that works perfectly. I'm pleased with the Sena kit.
