Can I send City Navigator V9 maps to my Zumo 550 that currently has CN NT 2008? If I do, will it erase the old map set like the Quest does? I'm going to the Balkans next week and the CN V9 maps have more detail than the newer CN NT 2008 maps.

I believe you can but you'll need an unlock code for them to match the Zumo. First though you should back up the gmapprom.img & gmapbmap.img files to somewhere safe before you do anything. These are you original pre-loaded map files. If you mess up, you can easily re load them.
It's worth joining the Zumo forums http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php?action=forum for detailed info. There are some real experts on there.

Why not put your V9 maps on an SD card and insert it into the Zumo 550, that way you can access both sets of maps or either or set of maps. You will need an unlock code if your unit did not previously have V9 mapping software loaded on the Zumo

Thanks for the replies. According to Garmin CN V9 is not compatible with the Zumo. I'm surprised that the later CN NT 2008 has less detail than V9

Strange reply that from Garmin, as my Zumo 550 originally came loaded with CN_NT V9. I've upgraded to NT 2008 on mine but I can still access and use the CN_NT V9 mapping from the SD card if I need to.

The Zumo is only compatible with NT versions, it won't work with the others. Have you tried importing the Version 9 routes into NT 2008? That might work:nenau

That's what I've done. Plotted routes in CN V9, then switched to NT 2008 and sent them to the Zumo. The weird thing is, when I zoom in below the 10 mile scale (on NT 2008) the minor roads and towns disappear

I assume you are zooming in on Mapsource, what happens when you do it on the Zumo?

Just the same. It's crap:spitfire I've just downloaded the same routes and waypoints to the Quest, using CN V9 and the detail is all there. :thumb
Looks like I'm taking the Quest as well then, ah well that's progress........

Bugger, I still have my 2610, can't bring myself to sell it, the Zumo went backwards in many ways to pander to those with single figure IQs!
You should post all this on the Zumo forum, Garmin keep an eye on that I'm told.

It's nothing to do with the Zumo. The newer mapping, that all Garmin units is sold with now seems to have less detail then the old for the area Number6 is going.

Strange that they should reduce the detail but there must be a reason

I'd like to know the location where this has happened in the Balkans, can you post screen shots, co-ordinates or attach a file with a waypoint?

Could I just chip in with a related (I think) question ... I can go to Garmin online and update both the Zumo and Mapsource products with the latest maps can't I?

You can update the firmware in the Zumo and you can order and pay for maps online but they will be posted to you, you can't download maps upgrades online :)

Hi Kev, sorry for the delay, I just got back this morning. Look at Podgorica in Montenegro. At the 10 mile scale the detail appears normal but if you zoom in any closer than some of the roads and towns disappear  The same thing happens in Bosnia and Croatia too. In V9 the detail remains at all scales
Andy.

I have four map sets on my notebook
- City Navigator Europe NT 2008
- City Navigator Europe NT v9
- Worldmap and
- Worldmap Routeable

Looking at the area around Podgorica, NT2008 has the worst coverage. The best coverage is the Worldmap Routable (free download at http://www.elsinga.net/map_wwbmap3.html), then the normal Garmin Worldmap. v9 is better than NT2008, but not as good as either of the Worldmaps.

Which is all really weird!

Tim
