Senegal: FCO Travel Advice update: 13th Jan 2010

To put this in perspective , considering it's extremely badly timed (but no doubt meant sincerely) from the P.O.V of the Calum's road guys (and more importantly, considering that they are already on their way) their families....this is pretty much identical info to what was on there before...read it in the context of what happens in Birmingham 20 times more often per day (pickpocketting etc) every day.

It said the same, bar rhe minor details and specific incidences being quoted, before the last four or five plymouth dakar trips, and also the same just before the scoots trips to the Gambia that a bunch of us here went on.

In short, don't worry about it..in fact, since it hasn't been upgraded given the stories about the Spanish aid workers being detained, I'd see it as a positive :thumb2

dude...I cant help the timing of FCO travel announcements. If I was on the road, on my way or planning.....I would want to know all information available to me. I posted this here for 'everyone' to be aware of....not just the Calum's Road guys. FFS !!!!

No, you can't help the timing of the F.O reports, but maybe you could have timed your post here a bit better, or added a considered appraisal rather than just sticking it up raw so it looks like a scary story?

In your words, FFS :blast

Hmm, ok, well done, well thought out there.

Maybe we're both missing something here......I doubt it though :blast

What part of the phrase 'insensitive wanker' don't you understand?

Got your PM Gordo

Nothing there that the guys don't know already. They have been monitoring it for the past year.

"Go do one" springs to mind:thumb2

So the advice goes out next week, two weeks time, next month ? What about the guys who are leaving in 3 weeks time.....should they know now or wait till they're en-route. At this time of the year, when there's plenty of trips being planned, there's probably 'no good time' to release this sort of information.

As I said before....I've posted it 'here', in the Travel section for N. Africa etc......for 'everyone'....that's the bit you're missing, Fanum.

At least it's been highlighted....we've made sure of that ! :beerjug:

Thanks for the heads up Gordo.

For the benefit of anyone whose geography is a bit flaky :augie, Casamance is the area of Senegal way to the south of The Gambia.

I've cross posted the warning to the sub-Saharan section of HUBB.
