Stuff

Hi Guys,

I think i've got all the kit i need apart from a puncture repair kit , just in case of course,

Any recommendations , i have a mini compressor out of a Smart Car , so just need a kit to plug i guess, worst case scenario i have European cover lol.

Also i dont have a proper bike sat nav but do have a garmin Nuvi which i'll bring along which i attach to my bike by my givi thing, cannot load waypoints as such, but it does the job in getting me from a-b

Think thats it , got my cooking, sleeping and travel kit sorted.

If we are doing the Chunnel , maybe someone could put me up the night before, or if we are doing Portsmouth i can put up a few at my place if they are coming from up North to down south :comfort

pmr

hi all, throwing all the gear together now,are people taking pmr`s mine`s ready to go but if no one is taking them i wont bother, cheers:blagblah

Welcome All

I've not got radio or sat nav (jst iPhone)

I'm wondering as we have a fairly committed group now what the feeling on ferry times and onward travil after ? Is 0800 still the aim? As I'm 3+ hours from Dover and I'm guessing Baz is more like 4+ if a big ride is planed on the saterday then who can set of Friday day/night? I see we have a offer in bath if we change plan To Southampton (cheers)

I'm personally thinking of getting to the Dover area (camp or bnb)
Friday. That is unless the general plan is a easy first day maybe camp in France n get to know each other etc

Any thoughts?

P.S sorry about spelling (usein phone)

Hi Chaps

I'll go with the flo. But as Ian's asked... my favoured option is still to go about 7.00 - 8.00am, have a short day hauling arse across France on the autoroute until about 4pm(ish) and get to decent riding roads and scenery asap.

I've crossed Northern France a couple of times (to the Ardennes) on the smaller roads and it's always seemed hard work and taken a long time to get anywhere, mainly due to tractors and endless villages.

That's assuming Germany isn't in monsoon of course!! I thought the plan was to wait until this weekend comming before we decide for definate which direction to head - to have a better stab at double guessing the weather?

But I'm packed and ready!:thumb2

Dont forget to pack a fleece or three, although its 28'C here (Southeast Germany) in the mid afternoon its now down to 5'C at night.

Cheers for that Wheelie :thumb

A pair of long-johns too I think. (Good job there's no Sheila's on this one!)

trip options

if the option comes up for friday nite from portsmouth check LD lines for times and prices, late sail at 23.00 to le halve then if it isthat we head to the fatherland its not much further(60mls-ish) than the dover option, i kno its not everyones ideal times depending on work etc and it may be more expensive but it will give you the option of 1;all get together and a nites rest(to a point depending how much you drink) and 2;the option of which direction suits the weather, but at the end of it i`m ready for any route.the other thing is getting back,is calais the best for all,who needs to be back on sat a.m. ect:roll

Trip Options
Iam Happy with both options but the night ferry sounds favourite it would save staying in a b&b the night before and give us a head start the next day.As for the return Ive got three extra days.so now rush.

Pompy ferry in the early morning would be ok by me (I'm afraid I'm crap at sleeping at the best of times - so an 11pm ferry then a days riding from the early hours is not gonna be the best day of my holiday).

Tunnel still gets my vote though, every time!

Portsmouth works for me, same reasons as Richard us up north are gona have to start v early or stop over friday night To do 0800 Dover. So I guess the democratic thing to do would be put it to the vote?

Ian

I'm ok with either option but the Chunnel is 3 hours from me and Portsmouth is probably about 1.5 hrs so either way it's a very early start for me.
Lets put it to a vote i reckon that's the fairest way.

Hi Guys,

if the weather holds like this, twill be a fine trip :aidan . I'm up for doing the Tunnel on 08:00 Saturday. Maybe camp down Folkeston way the night before sounds good, start as we mean to go on and all that....:JB

Ty

I ve booked the time off the bike is ready, got the thermarest. Cant decide on the tent any advice appreciated . Hope the weather changes.

If it helps you can borrow my Coleman Phad 3 - top bit of bike touring kit, easy to pitch, light and roomy, small enough to fit in a GSA Vario pannier. I'm in Gloucester so we can meet up down the A40 to hand over if required.

Hi Guys

If its the chunnel , i'd be up for camping the friday, found this place
http://www.thebestpubintheparish.com/default.aspx
They have a field for camping , and if you buy a meal in the pub it's free or £10.00 if you dont eat in the pub
10 mins from the Chunnel
Paul
