Time has come to consider a replacement for my trusty Series 4 helmet and I would welcome counsel from anyone who moved to a Series 5.

I've used the Series 4 daily for several years and found the double glazed visor excellent but know some more modern lids use a special coating on the visor that does away with the need - does anyone know if the Series 5 has one?

The Series 5 appears to have more venting than the Series 4 - does it work or is it just for show?
Finally, how do they compare on noise levels?

Thanks

Neville

Venting on my Series 5 seems to be pretty good but it would steam up very badly if it wasn't for the pin-locked visor which you can't specify as standard, you have to buy it as an (expensive) extra. I consider it essential for winter riding.

The shallow V design in the top of the visor is lunacy, it just encourages water to collect there and then run down the inside of the visor.

It's so much better than my old Caberg though that I can almost forgive it.

Would I buy another? Probably not.

Noise is fine with my custom moulded plugs in. I never ride without them.

So...........where does that leave you?

BMW Series 6 (when it comes out)?

Arai Tour-X?

It's easy to see how Pinlock and Fogcity stay in business :rob

Go on...get a Shoei X-Spirit, or Arai Corsair...... you know it makes sense:thumb2

Al :D

So what would you buy as an alternative flip front?

I don't know to be honest!:nenau

Tarka reckons that the Laser Revolution (?, search his posts) is the best as it was designed as a snowmobile helmet originally, has great ventilation and good seals etc. but I've no personal experience of it. I believe that it also has a flip down sun shield similar to the Caberg Crapissimo.

Schuberth C2's seem to get good and bad reviews in equal measure regarding ventilation but are probably good helmets, I believe that Schuberth actually manufacture the BMW helmets. Use a pinlock and they will probably be fine.

Every one seems to accept that all helmets have seal/misting problems to varying degrees in the rain, especially in low ambient temperatures. If we can put men in space you'd think that we could overcome these little difficulties.

I've had both System 4 and System 5 , the 4 had a better build quality and did not mist as badly as the 5 (which also leaks water in through the closed visor)
My wifes Schuberth is better than both but unfortunately due to the flatter chin piece they do not fit me .
The sytem 5 has got one more season and then if the new Shoei gets good reviews I may be trying that.

How do they compare in sound levels? Where I am the System 4 is going for dirt cheap at the moment.
