Nadeem, you really don't need to spend a pile of dough on a camera; not, at least, to take pics like this one from your collection:

Not all the pics there are mine and/or taken with the Nikon ...the stuff that's for professional use doesn't go on that site...I tend to stick to Tiffs for that and the quality is a lot higher...

One thing - yes the Coolpix has trouble focusing at low light levels, that's a major problem... hence the need to upgrade...

Here's a pic from today...just changed it from raw to jpeg with no adjustments made...

What are you using...? I'm seriously thinking of gettiing the Nikon D2X , as I am taking pics for two of the mags that I work on and the need for speedy high res results is needed...I already have the SB 800 (Nikon) Flash...

I've been using my Nikon D100 for a couple of years now, and have ben very pleased with it's performance. It's yielded excellent results. If I had a chance at a D2X, having used one already (a limited trial), I'd jump at it. There are some concerns about it's reliability, but with all new 'gadgets' there seem to be teething issues (as there were with initial firmware versions of the D100), but I'm sure these will be ironed out, or probably have been.
I've also been very happy with Nikon's service and support (they always seem especially helpful on the blower with niggling issues, such as the stupid eyepiece rubber on the D100, which has been lost three times now, as it is easily caught and knocked off!)

The D2X's speed and higher resolution appeals to me immensely, especially when using the camera for motorsport coverage (which I do when I can).

I use my D100 with a SB80 flash which is superb. The SB800 is even better.
If you can get the costs back for pro usage, I'd say go for it.

For me, any excuse!!
Took some nice shots with mine at the TT this week, and still love the camera now, so for me it's would be a great step up.
A 12 megapixel image in RAW mode of this shot (Adrian Archibold) that I took yesterday would have been superb!

D100

Here's a shot from a D100, albeit underwater!

I really rate this camera - and after playing with a D2X recently I was glad to get back to mine; I think the results from the D2X didn't justify the cost IMHO.

In terms of quality of output I would rank the D70 alongside the D100 - and its a LOT less expensive than the D2X!

Stunning photo Ralphy. Are you sure that wasn't in a tank? So clear.
Cripes, you wouldn't get me that close to a Moray Eel!

Nice camera

Why did you choose those lenses? they cover as near as dammit the same focal lengths

I needed a bit more wide coverage than the package deal lens - will also be getting a 70-200mm one...

Er, they do tend to lock on when biting prey - best not to get bitten in the first place:
goodbye thumb :nono

The one in my pic is about 5 foot long, but the largest one I've ever seen was just last month off the coast of Sudan, I reckon it was over 10 foot long - and no-one was too keen to get in the cave with it.

New camera is excellent - recommend the 20D to anyone...very pleased with it...:)

Glad you are enjoying the new camera Nadeem. Now start saving for the only 'must have' lens. 70-200f2.8L IS.

Here is a shot recently taken at Dunsfold with this lens and the 1.4 converter. You should see the original RAW file - talk about sharp!!!
