Time to 'fess up.

Zooming out of the big smoke on Sunday afternoon, I crossed the railway gates at Sandymount, turning left into the filter-lane. Noticed cop on bike in outbound lane, more or less parallel with me.
At end of slip road, checked there was no traffic except the cop, so zoomed fearlessly onwards into the bus lane.
Cop pulled me over for a chat. Basically, there is a stop sign at then end of the filter lane (must be since they put the buslane there, it used to be a yield sign) and he took exception to me rocketting out into the bus lane which he was following. I thought he would go straight and leave me the bus lane where it kinks left. Anyhow, fair is fair, it was my mistake, no doubt about that.
Bollocked me for being stupid, "as one biker to another biker" to quote his word.
Nothing written down, and it made a very positive impression on me which a fine or whatever would probably not have. Fair play to him.
Funny old world.

You're not the only one to get a severe talking to by a member of An Garda Síochána this week. Apparently they take a dim view of high speed on the M7. :rob

And, no, it wasn't me by the way. :angel

should have told him to go catch some real criminals would have saved you the lecture

Then smile gratefully when he hands you the fine and points :augie

They don't do themselves any favours. Do they?:hide

Eat that humble pie

If it was me I would be happy to accept the bollocking as long as his biro stays in the pocket ... Especially if I had strayed out of the rules ... There is no penalty points attached to a bollocking...If I thought I had not done any thing wrong perhaps I would speak up.. If I knew I had done nothing wrong I think I would have to say so ... Like all organisations there are nice people and not so nice people out there seems you met one that was some where in the middle ...Important question is will it prevent you from carrying out that manoeuvre again ?

Agreed, although it's been a fair while since I had either scenario thank God. Either I'm a better rider than I used to be, or there are fewer Gardai these days :D

did he need a valid passport, by any chance?
Jaysus Michael, you've a very low opinion of me :(
Accurate, but very low :blush

It's all this hiding up the access ramp on the motorway. Very bloody sneaky. I thought all these cameras were supposed to be 'safety cameras' ? If I adjust my mirror to look up those ramps it compromises the view I have of the traffic behind me and that's not very safe, is it :nenau

You deserve credit for taking the bollicking so well. Its hard listening to a garda who may not may not have a clue yet may still must apply the letter of the law or his version of the letter of the law.
Heres one for you. I was accompanying a plain clothes cop to the ferry for France one time on way to Rosslare. Coming into Wexford this car swirved slighly and unintentionally on a roundabout, midway round the roundablout. The cop pulled him over! Ate the living be jaysus out of him! Then told him as any big headed prick would "drive on son"!
As soon as we arrived in France I lost the fukker. Never met him since either! One of my better moves. He was a friend of my ex's! I fukn got rid of her too soon after that! lol

I am not sure what to make of this thread.
I think the Garda was Ok , in doing what he did. Is the Word i am looking for "Reasonable".
I have to remark on the "Mentality " that has arisen in the Gardai as a
whole , and only this week the commisioner himself remarked at the
passing out parade that "the Ordinary People of the country ,whom you are
there to serve, deserve to be Treated as if it was your mother or Father".
I have to say i was delighted to Hear this and hope that in Due course it
has its impact on the """US & Them "" Mentality ..
Which i have to say has even reared its head on the Forum .
Just read Above .
ITS BOYS LIKE YOU THAT ""Dont do themselves any favours"".

Lads, so it is clear:
I was not that pee'd off to get a bollocking that brought me back to earth as to rules and safety. He kept the biro in the pocket and as someone said, that is what counts.
