Hi All,

A quick question. I have approximately 3,000 miles until the 12,000 mile service on my 2010 1200GSA is due. I'm heading to Spain in a few weeks and expect to do cover around 4,000 miles while I'm away. Allowing for a few miles before I leave if I don't service the bike until I'm back it'll probably be around 1,500 miles past the 12,000 miles service interval. Is this likely to affect the warranty?

I'm considering getting the bike serviced and having a couple of new tyres fitted in Valencia while I'm away, but would welcome any advice or experiences that the forum may have to offer in respect to having a UK bike serviced in Spain. I could get it serviced before I go but it will be around 2,500 miles before the service is due.

Thanks in advance,
Phil.

No doubt Spaniards in Valencia get their BMW motorbikes serviced there, so why the worry? Ring up, book an appointment. Job done.

If it gives you any comfort I have seen French, German, Swedish and one Mexican bikes being serviced at BMW, Battersea.

forget buying tyres in spain unles you have won the lottery . there are other dealers in valencia or gandia, vergel, finistrat aka benidorm and san juan alicante as you head south in that order The n332 heading south is hell on wheels except for the young ladies on the side of the road between oliva and benidorm

I think the my advice is to change tyres before you leave in case you can't get any and contact your dealer about the mileage. Leaving on a trip with tyres which you know won't make it is asking for trouble in my opinion.

When mine was in warranty, I regularly went over mileage with no problems from my dealer. Have a word with them and just book it in before you go:thumb

Unless they have got better, Dos Rodes used to have a minimum 5-6 weeks waiting list for servicing, and I bought my GSA from them !
Workshop is always full of crashed Guardia Civil bikes .

In Alicante "Fersan" not much better .

All,

Many thanks for your very helpful advice.

I've booked my bike in for a service locally. I'll also have another pair of Roadsmarts fitted while it's at the dealers.

Regards,
Phil.
