I am getting a 17-01 interval for service coming up on start up. I know these usually pop up just before a mileage or annual service is due but just trying to figure out what this one says... last serviced and reset at 48400 in May 2015.

My bike was taken away for repair after an attempted theft on 6 July this year and at that point it was not showing a service indicator light. Mileage is a way off so that rulets that out. Ignition barrel was changed and I am guessing the battery was disconnected for a while too. Any ideas? I could take it to steppers and pay to have it reset as I am likely todo the miles to 54k service by end of year but curious of the 17-01...?

Ummmm my bike has just started showing this when the ignition it turned on and just had service

serviced at dealers? Can anyone clarify what the service message actually says, as in " annual service" or "mileage service" etc. Is 17-01 the right code?

You can reset the service reminder by mileage AND date.

If you have a GS911 you can reset it yourself.

If service is coming due by MILEAGE it will give you a countdown like SERVICE 400, the 300, 200, 100 then just SERVICE.

IF SERVICE is due by time or date then you get a one month reminder. IIRC the reminder should read next month so 16-09

As your bike states 17-01 I think the bike date i.e. the date it thinks that it is is incorrect. Dealer or GS911 reset....

Takes seconds to do. The dealer that serviced ought to sort that for free...

If you were close to me I'd sort it for you....

17-01 is NOT A CODE!! It's a date...

Roger.

Just checked. It's 01-17. So a date. But that's out too then as 1 month would then be 09-16...I'll call the insurance repair people as dealers charge for doing this

If the bike has been without battery power, even just a few hours, the ECU will have shut down.
It will have no idea what the date and time is when you power it back up.
I think it reverts back to January 1978 or some other strange date.
Two minute fix with a 911.

Yeah. I agree. But bmw dealership won't do it unless they were last people to service bike. So I'll have to bother steppers.

Any recommends for a place to buy a GS911?

I have used https://www.ilexa.co.uk for a few things - they hold stock and deliver next day.

When I was looking I found somewhere else (I forget the web address) which was a few quid cheaper, but there was no indication of delivery timescales, hence I decided to pay a little more and use a company I had previously used.
