doing part of my 60k service ... and need some clarification: air filter, is that an OEM part or can i get it from Halfords? If Halfords, what am I looking for? Drive Shaft/Gearbox oil. Haynes specifies GL5 grade (I think that's what it says) for some reason I've got Gl40 grade in my shed, can I use the 4 grade or do I have to go for the 5? Changing brake fluid ... as I'm not the worlds most gifted mechanic (understatement of century, me thinks), how much can I do wrong here (I know where to get the brake fluid from and even have a twin caliper bleeding kit, believe it or not). Everything else under control (even managed to rescue the rear brake pads a few days ago with your help), front pads ok, but caliper will get a soaking in brake cleaner, engine oil no probs, new rear tyre ordered and will be fitted Saturday (£88, reasonable price?). The rest I leave to my trusted Bristol Motorrad mechanics.

Please be gently, ok no abuse or I'll sulk ...:rob

What your bike ?

Gearbox and Differential oils as specified are GL 5 - any well known and reputable brand.:rob
Like you I would be interested in learning if there is an alternative to the OEM air filter.:thumb
Oil filters to suit a 318i sedan will fit too.

cheers

interestingly enough, went to Halfords to buy oils and asked for airfilter. They have one in their programme by k&n BUT ... got some story that K&N don't have a supplier for BMW (air) filters in the UK, bla bla bla ...

It's a funny world we live in.
