Service Light refusal

My 1250GS is due its 3 year 18000 service is due.
Vertu BMW say only needs oil filter and brake fluid (again!)
Its been change once at 12 months -according to then to clear out any wear contaminating the oil.
They say if I refuse to have it changed now its out of warranty, they cannot guarantee that the service light will be turned off!!!

Only £40 but who can check its done anyway?

Anyone else had this?

I am happy to change oil and filter myself, is there a way to turn off the service light easily?

I expect that it’ll be logged onto the BMW system, so that’s who’ll know.

For £40 I’d just get it done. In the scheme of ownership…..

I am confused which bit you are questioning, and what the £40 is for?

Is it for the brake fluid change?
oil change?
oil filter change?
turning off the service light?

If you ever ride in my direction i can turn your service light off.

you need a GS911 which is what i have.

For what its worth and keeping the peace i would let the dealer change the oil filter and brake fluid.
If the service light is still on, ride over i will reset it for 12 months.

Fuck Sake it's£40 on a £12K bike! Honestly??? It's a Dickhead Move!!!

IF you have problems and the bike has a full Dealer service history? BM will make contributions to repairs

If not? Au Revoir Mon Ami!!

For the sake of £40 it's a no brainer!

P.S. AND exactly why I hated people cutting corners fitting cheap schite filters and Snake oil Luibricants to their bikes !!

Say goodbye to your warranty.

Vertu can check if its done by their mechanics by checking their records.
If you or another mechanic does it and something goes wrong, they will refuse saying the wrong oil may have been used, or the sump plug was loose etc etc.

My Bike was sold by Williams BMW Manchester in 2017 and they have the record of every service and MOT, the recall for the final drive and the replacement of the leaking oil seal they did.
Last year they put a new throttle on it too.
And to be fair their prices seem fair enough.

Any issues such as the one i am having at the moment (hard suspension) goes a lot easier with the dealer as they know NOBODY ELSE has worked on the bike.

Anyone else had this?

I think most people who buy a bike from a dealer under warranty has had this.

The brake fluid is a change after year one, then every 2 years from there. So you should have paid for one on your first 6k service, then again at your 3rd/18k service.

Do it yourself and ride with the service light on. Save £40.
Pay them to do it ride without the service light on.

How does the dealer know it's been done?

Easy they read the water content in the brake fluid, not hard to check with the right equipment

So first change it's at 20%. So they change it

2nd service it's at 20% again. Tick in the box


However if you skip it, how will they know. Because it will be at xx% or higher

Hmmm someone's missing a change??

BUt lucky for you they don't share records between dealerships, so nothing will show up

However a quick phone call to the last supplying dealer will confirm/ deny everything

As others have said

If you've spent north of £12k on a bike and your going to skimp the serviceing

Why bother buying that bike?

Get something cheaper and pay for servicing

It like people who buy a expensive car, but can be bothered or afford to spend £200 having Bluetooth calling/ hands free set up

When People bothered their backsides bringing in bikes for Annual Services? They got the annual service with OE parts !!

And they got their books stamped

Annual / Bi Annual Servo ABS fluid changes ???

Don't get me started on how many thought it was not needed!!
