servicing and warranty on dakar

hi all i wondered weather servicing needs to be done at an official BMW dealer to keep the original and extended warranty valid ?? i thought i read somewhere on here that it doesnt need to be? anyone know the price for a 30,000 mile standard service , anything special ? all for an 07 f650gs dakar

In theory 'NO', in practice probably 'Yes'. If it is serviced by a reputable bike engineer and any subsequent claims are clearly not connected with any service work you will/should be OK. My fear was that if any claim arose that could possible be linked to a service item you'd be in trouble.

Your choice.

As for costs, my understanding is that there are or were two main services not really linked to specific miles as such but were annual or interim. Most modest mileage riders would just have annual services. You'd need to ask your dealer for accurate quotes but I think £150 ish for interim, and £225 ish for annual was the order on my 06 650GS when I was doing some miles. Difficult to remember as there was always non-service stuff like tyres in there too.

At 30k I would have thought you would have started doing your own maintenance and servicing.

From what I remember as long as you use BMW OEM parts for the service and keep the receipts you should be fine.

well now that i have brought the bike and its just been serviced i proberly wont need to get another untill the warranty expires in november. it rides great and the engine is very smooth too and they have a very good relability record so fingers crossed wont need to use the warranty.
Allan Jefferies did the first 2 services then an independant has done the other 5. looking forward to seeing what my mpg is after reading tales of 70mpg or god forbid 90!!(that would be nice!)

as for servicing myself that will be the case unless i need to have it plugged into a computer for anything? only just got it though so im not up to speed on whats required.

Just back from a weekend trail riding on my Dakar, 250 Kilometres for less than 10 litres. Very mixed riding, 280 Kilometres till petrol light came on and I then filled the tank with 12.3 litres.
