Just enquired about trading my Gs Lc in for a new Gsa Lc, was told by salesman that BMW dealer aren't able to resell a bike unless it has a full BMW service history. Therefor unable to quote a reasonable price.
As it happens mine is ok but if this is correct maybe we ought to be made more aware.
Anyone with any different info.?

Never had a problem when I traded the R1200GSA at Grimsby got the price I wanted they resold it within a week used approved, all services were done at non BMW garages except the 600m on the bike

When the idiot manager Paul Clarke at Marshall started giving me a quote to PX my RT in for a GS he told me that as the bike had been serviced by 3 different BMW dealers it affected the trade in price. At that point i walked away. Kept the bike another year. Went and talked to a proper dealer and got more for the PX than quoted a year earlier. Go figure.:blast

Sounds like they did not want the bike at that time, but making us some bull like that is a bit low.

I don't think PC actually knows what he's talking about. He didn't last long at Marshalls as the manager. now he's at Rainbow there are some odd stories coming out of there as well.

Ho Hum, never mind. where ever he is, he'll never get any of my business .

I never liked Rainbow as a dealership but some find them great.

Any reason?

A few small things

Test rode the LC when it first came out thinking of changing and when been shown around the bike said I was not interested in the modes and would be buying a basic model of I liked the bike, the salesman commented abruptly "If you don't want the modes why are you test riding the bike there is no point" he has since long gone for some reason

Took my TC in for visual play in the bevel box told all normal and within tolerance 0.3mm and fobbed off, I measured it with a dial gauge and found 5mm sorted elsewhere.

6000 mile service took the bike in all lights working charged £16 extra for a headlight bulb that had apparently failed in the workshop, I was in the showroom but not asked if I wanted in replacing first and I had a bulb kit in the topbox and would have done it myself if it had blown.

Maybe things have changed or some find them great not for me thanks.

That's complete and utter bollocks that is

If dealers were not allowed to sell anything that had been serviced outside of the dealer network then they wouldn't have much in the way of used stock to sell :augie

Exactly- and non-BMW bikes get traded in at BMW dealerships all the time.
Some of them are sold by the dealer, some are sold through the dealer to another out-of-network trader.
I bought a KTM1190 Adv from Premier Bikes in Didcot that was traded in with a BMW dealer- that bike ended back up at Premier inside a week.
It is business as usual for this to happen.

If dealers try to spin you nonsense just laugh at them and walk out.

They only want what they want

As there are so many bikes in the market, the dealers are only interested in the best bikes available ( in there opinion ) ... They can be selective ...

Remember most customers ask " has it got full history " because that's what the press tell them to ask :blast... So the dealers stock what they are asked for

The high mileage, patchy history bikes will find there way to the independents and not stay in the dealer network ..

One of the reasons the dealers like PCP so much they get a supply of low mileage fully serviced used stock for the showroom

There are so many bikes now on pcp deals ... Not all of them are kept by the dealers ... Bikes are being returned to finance company and then put through auctions ... Kills second hand values

I have also been told by dealer who i get on really well with that if your bike hasnt got BMW history they! the dealer arent allowed to resell them, also if you look on dealer websites now they all seem to have a two year warranty has that anything to do with it?

Aren't allowed to sell them to who exactly? :nenau

Once the dealer has done an AUB check for extended warranty purposes they (the dealer and in turn BMW Motorrad) are giving the bike a clean bill of health. Any "we can't resell your bike on because it doesn't have a FBMWSH" bollocks is just that i.e. BOLLOCKS and just a precursor to the dealer bending you over and butt fucking you dry on your part exchange value

I would suggest to anyone who has had this conversation with a dealer to tell them to "fuck off" and when they get there to carry on fucking off some more :augie
