Servicing history at trade in time ?

I have also been told by dealer who i get on really well with that if your bike hasnt got BMW history they! the dealer arent allowed to resell them, also if you look on dealer websites now they all seem to have a two year warranty has that anything to do with it?

Now that's what I'm asking.. I'll try another dealer after the weekend, I think I did get a reasonable price to swop but my bike is a tidy one anyway..

They can sell them, but if they haven't got a BMW FSH they can't go into the BMW Approved Used Bike Scheme which come with a 2yr warranty.

That sounds like what i was told i didnt take a lot of notice at the time its just the fact i seen post on here and made a comment:nenau

Exactly, I was quoted just over £5000 for my standart 2014 LC FSH , on the shopfloor same bike and speck with higher milage had an £9000 price tag.:blast

What's the mileage/ spec/ condition?

Why?

The market is awash with returning GS WC & a kick in the nuts is coming

More scaremongery.

The spec/ mileage/ condition will be useful for people to know. Is it an ex ORS bike? Has it done 30k miles? Has it been dropped/ crashed?

To base the residuals of a bike on one person saying they've been offered a low trade in figure is a bit naive.

5k for a 2014 LC? 10k loss in 2yrs:blast id make it a keeper

I was only offered £7,500 on a year old high spec Triumph Explorer with 5k mikes against a GS LC shortly after they were launched. I kept it another year, put another 6k mikes on it and got £8,500 against a GS LC from a different dealer.

You can get a new standard 12GS for around £10.5k from the right dealer ;)

That dealer was obviously chancing their arm. They were probably bored!:D

If I bought a 14 plate bike from BMW I would expect it to have full BMW main dealer history. Less so if I bought elsewhere.

It's not just the GS that has fluctuating px prices, Park Lane offered me 9k px for a 16 plate S1000XR SE, fortunately another dealer gave me an extra 2k and a sizeable chunk off the new bike. I don't think the issue is the bikes it's just greedy dealers that try take the piss.

I've left my number with rainbow in the past and they never got back to me, subsequently purchased a 16 and 17 plate bike ordered elsewhere so that's two potential bike sales totalling over 30k that they've missed out on.

I don't think PC actually knows what he's talking about. He didn't last long at Marshalls as the manager. now he's at Rainbow there are some odd stories coming out of there as well.

Ho Hum, never mind. where ever he is, he'll never get any of my business .
Always had great service from Marshalls other than when Mr Clark was at the helm. Would never buy a thing off him. New guys are however spot on. Great service dept as well !!! I

Can I go slightly off at a tangent.. I saw a car I like at a dealer yesterday it's down 600 miles and had 2 owners ( 1 the dealer and the 2nd it was regsitered in name of owner who never took delivery because daddy bought her a bigger more luxurious version.

What discount would you expect on a car that had 2 keepers before 700 miles ?

7.65%.

Daft question gets daft answer to be honest. There are so many variables it's impossible to answer. Depends how it's priced compared to the rest of the market, how long the dealer has had it , how keen they are to shift it, how much interest they've had, state of the dealers targets etc etc.

It's happening though

The arse effect

regarding the comments by the OP , i took a GSA to Chester BMW who said something similar to me they would take it in Part ex but would be well below book price due to not the Official BMW service history. I was serviced on schedule using BMW Parts that we provided receipts for. So I took it to another BMW dealership , who gave me a better price on the RS i wanted and more than £1000 in part ex on my GSA

The salesman is telling you a load of crap. It pays to shop around.

Seem to be offering particularly low trade in prices for 2014 GS models ,there is a glut of them mainly due to the large number of that model supplied to dealers by BMW at the time of the r1200rt suspension debacle which were put on the road as long term loan bikes for RT owners

Ok. Thank you.

part exchanging is quite simple - I refuse to haggle and simply pose a question. "I would like that bike, now give me 2 figures: first one is the amount of cash needed with my part exchange to buy the bike. 2nd figure is the best HP rate over 3 years (not PCP) using my bike as a deposit."

The mathematics will either be attractive or not. If I walk away and then get a phone call with a better offer then I will probably tell the dealer to fuck off for not offering me that price to begin with (although there would be a few plausible reasons such as a guaranteed customer for the trade in, a cancelled order or being allocated additional stock by the maker at a favourable price).

What make/model is it?

Go on a car broker site eg drive the deal. That gives u rock bottom new price. And then decide how much cheaper you expect it to be to make it viable to go used.
