Afternoon

Having finally recovered from the shock of paying BMW Battersea for the 24k service on my 1200GSA i am now looking for a local/approved firm that i can use to undertake the future servicing of my trusy stead. I am happy to do the basic stuff myself but the more serious work is a bit above my expertise. I live in Kent and used to use Cray Engineering but Jim does not have all the necessary tools for the more electrically minded 1200GSA. I work in south london so anywhere in these areas would be good.

Cheers

Steptoe

He's the man!!! think he works on the 1200s he's a magician on the 1100 and 1150's,visit his grotto in the vale so he can wave his wand.....:Motomartin

It hurt to pay it and it hurts to type it:

£585 and that was not including the new rear disc and pads that i had done before that.

Thats just taking the piss............Be cheaper to ship it back to china where they built it and get them to do it....Jeez...:Motomartin

Another plug for Steptoe:bow

As you are in Kent you could also try Brian Giles at BGM in Pembury, Kent. He is also very good and may be more local.

Try a search on here for details.

I have no personal experience of using this chap but he maybe worth a shot

HTH

When I got back in to BM's and before I discovered GS's and St.Eptoe I used to have my bikes looked after by Mark, in fact he looked after most of the instructors bikes where I volunteered.

He was at Mobikes in Bromley (a BMW & Honda Dealer) before they went up the swanny and is very well skilled in those areas.

I go to Steppers of choice now but Mark would be a very worthy back-up.

I've just had the same service at SLM and got charged the same amount. ish. What really hurt is they charge 12 quid to test ride it. (With my fickin petrol in the tank). So they check their mechanic's work using my fuel and charge me for the privilage. No thanks!

Steptoe

I thoroughly recommend Steptoe - what he can't fix, isn't worth fixing. Mega helpful and reliable. I've been going to him since I got stung at what was Sawbridgeworth BMW for a 24k on my first GS - paid about the same price that you did, although this was 5 years ago - paid after I'd picked myself up off the floor that is. Wouldn't take my mean machine anywhere else now :thumb2

i keep thinking

Shall i trade in the 1150 and get a nice shiny 1200 with free panniers and a 2 year warranty.only 6 gees to find, not too bad, then i hear of stuff like this.
£600 quid for a service???
First thing i thought was fookin hell, thats enough money to fund petrol for a 10 day tour.
servicing the 1150 doesnt come anywhere near that, moneys money, and it all has to be earnt.
I guess if you want to run a champagne bike , you cant run it on lemonade money.
I seem to remember there is an eu directive to say that as long as you get your vehicle serviced by a bone fide vat reg dealer, then the manufacturer has to honour the warranty , does this apply to BMW?

Brian Giles

Top bloke.

When SLM, Vines or the other SE dealers need a gearbox rebuilding, guess who actually does the job?

After Brian showed me the consequences of a service at SLM (truly dire level of quality and attention to detail), I vowed to only use talented independents. And have put my money where my mouth is...
