hello

After experiencing the standard main dealer crap on the last service (cost a fortune, didnt do the obvious stuff, etc) and as the bike doesnt have any warranty, i'm thinking about trying a non-main dealer.

I want to keep to the schedule and get someone who'll stamp the book purely so i can sell the bike with a FSH (otherwise i'd do it myself)

So - mistake? stay with main dealer? anybody got recommendations for someone reliable in the surrey / sw london area?

(its a gs1150 with 24K on the clock...)

cheers

jon

I would think Steptoe could happily provide you with a receipt which couild then be used to prove the bike has been serviced. You also have the advantage of having work done by a man who knows what he is doing. He is based in the Kingston area.

hello

ok - dropped him an email. i go past him on the way into work...

any opinions on the worth of bmw fsh compared to a bunch of receipts? got to say ive always taken newish (few years old) bikes to the main dealer, but the bmw folk really do take the piss...

I think the genuine history might make a bit of a difference at trade in time, but if you do a lot of miles, they will knock the price down on that, so the difference is not that great.

Service book can be stamped -

also a loan bike available , a GS of course .

Yep...there will obviously be difference in the value of the bike depending on if you have a BWM service history, or if it's been done by Steptoe...I'd imagine it might be as much as 20% different on resale value.

So if you want a bike worth a fifth more, just take it to Neil ;)

On a serious note, I doubt you'd find anyone here who would flinch in the slightest if they were to look over a second hand bike and find it had been maintained by Steptoe rather than a dealer.....Selling on to someone outside of the forum might entail answering a question or two but if you have a wodge of proper reciepts that match up to the Bwm service schedule, I wouldn't have thought it'd make a significant difference at all.

mmm... ok :)

I bought the bike secondhand, its only 2 years and 22K miles on the clock, but the fork brace has totally corroded. So the only reason i can think of taking it to bmw is to have the opportunity to ask them why they make their bikes out of cheese.
