Guys,

I'm a signature away from buying a 05 R1200GS :hug with only 1K miles on it and was wondering what is the servicing schedule? I'm aware it is the usual 6000mile service when I get there but what's needed in between? Saw an ad the other day with a guy saying he'd changed oil and filter every 3K?

What's seen as considered "run in"?

Anything special I should look for?

Any major call backs I should be aware of?

In anticiaption!!!:D :bounce1 :clap

Geoff

The service is every 6000 miles, just general clean and checks are required in between. If you use the right oil (do a search) you won't need to do anything else.
600 miles is considered as run in, but the boxer engine is normally considered properly run in at about 20 - 30,000 miles

As for recalls give BMW customer services a call and they will be able to tell you if there are any outstanding recalls not been done on the bike, all they will need is the last 7 digits of the VIN

Check the chain tension every week.....and make sure you take out that funny packing piece on the front forks...the wishbone looking thing....if you don't, it won't dive properly.

You're right about the oil

You're right about the oil changing...particularly the final drive oil which needs changing every 3000 miles....the engine is sealed for life though (but on recent models they put a drain plug on the front of it and the dealer changes the oil at 600 miles) so don't worry about that.

Not quite sure what oil you should be using TBH...but I'm sure if you post a question up on that, one of the clever people like Tarka will be along with a very helpful bit of advice soon.

Welcome aboard.

:)

He can't rtfm - he hasn't got the bike yet. :D

As Terayon says - every 6k miles. I assume the initial 600 mile service has been done. Apart from that, Boxers do burn oil especially when the engine is young so keep an eye on the level.

gone and dunnit!!!!

Well I've signed the paper and am now the proud owner of a GS:beerjug:

I can't pick it up until 16th Jun so lots of sleepless nights waiting (away on business!!):(

Looking forward to riding it though.

Thanks for the advice and help.
