Servicing Schedule 1200GSA

Anyone know what the Service Schedule is for 6000 miles on a 1200 GS Adventure?.
The reason I ask is on approaching two dealers Benhams BMW Motrad Wolverhampton and Clarke's BMW Rednal, Birmingham, they have both quoted different prices. Benhams £320, Clarkes £197.
The difference appears to be differing schedules, ie Benhams reckon in addition to Oil and Filter, plus tappets, it calls for gearbox oil change and Brake fluid change. Clarke's is just the Engine oil, filter and tappets.
Anyone got any idea what the 6000k service calls for. My bike is a 2008 model, just 12 months old.

You are due 2 services. The 6000 mile service and the 12 month service, Clarkes are only quoting you for the 6000 mile service, whereas Benhams are correctly quoting you for both.
 
Have a look at www.r1200gs.info

Not sure whether this covers all model years, in case anything has changed on the later models, but all of the service schedules are shown including the annual and the mileage interval services. You can see from these what is needed.
 
I was £210 for the 12 month inspection & 6000 mile service (brake fluid change, valve clearences, gearbox oil etc).

Carried out at John Clark in Aberdeen.

What else are they quoting for for £320???? :augie
 
Go with the cheapest. Clarkes have done all the servicing on mine and it`s as sweet as a nut at 48k:thumb Mark is a very good mechanic IMHO. Just don`t ask them for parts:blast

Don`t be fooled into this 6k + a yearly codswallop. Just ask them to service the bike as per the mileage schedule.
 
42k service

WEll my bike deperatly needs a service, it hasnt had one for quite a few miles 10 k i think. the log book not been ticked on service but on inspection. just got the bike. What should be done? and what shud i expect to pay?
 
Annual Inspection

My bike is due its 24k service. I have just been quoted £528.92 however if the brake fluid isnt changed (i have the ABS version) this drops to £381.94 which in itself is slightly alarming based on what i have read, any views?

can someone confirm this annual inspection thing? con or what!? appears to me that there is duplication in the maintenance schedule and this is just another revenue generator????

HOW MUCH???? I would ring round a few dealers to get the best price. I have never paid more than £300 including all fluids!!

My 42k service was £188.69 including VAT. This included a brake fluid change:thumb

Clutch and brake fluid is hydroscopic and should be changed every 2 years.

I was told that the 08/09 bikes service schedule is determined by a computer program,:nenau. You input mileage etc to the program. Anyone know if this is this correct?

On my 08 gs, 6000 mile + Annual no brake fluid was changed, bike was just under 1 year old.

12000 mile service, 13 months old, brake fluid and gear oil was changed.
 
Dont mix-up the brake and clutch fluid - clutch fluid in these bikes is a non-hydroscopic mineral oil and does not need changing every 2 years

That is way over the top! The 24k is little different to the 12k service, with the additional items being change of spark plugs, most probably the gearbox oil (and possibly changing the final drive oil). £145 to change the brake fluid is taking the piss big time.
 
Another set of figures......

2009 GSA, 16 months old, 18,000 service due, let the ringing round commence.

Clarkes of Birmingham (closest to work) £189

Gloucester BMW £155

Nottingham £224 + vat

Benham of Wolverhampton (Closest to home)......well......

1st go is £177 and change, asked them to price match Gloucester but then confusion reigns.

Aparantly the chassis number goes into the computer and the computer says what it needs......including oil, all filters, gearbox oil, final drive oil, all plugs, valves, belt swap, brake fluid e.t.c. e.t.c. Nowhere near the original £177:eek: (Wish I'd just said yes now:()

Looks like I'm off to Clarkes then. (Cost of fuel and time constraints rules out Gloucester).

The computer suggests things that are nowhere near ready for changing in the standard schedule, looks like the BMW computer is eagre to add funds to the company coffers then! BEWARE!

Will be going DIY after 2 years are up:D
