Servo on 1150

My R1150GS (2003) had its MOT yesterday and passed but the guy commented on my servo....

"whilst the brake performance of control 1 for rear brake is adeqate for test it will not lock wheel. suspect problem with servo"

I have been told that my type of bike does suffer with servo problems, is this the start of them? Any advice greatly recieved.

He does know it has ABS doesn't he ?

I presumed he knew. He put the bike on the rollers and showed me what it was doing..... applied front brake, then applied harder and the servo 'died' then came back to life ..... guess this is what the ABS is supposed to do isnt it? Well, guess ive just learnt a bit more about it then Cheers.

To see if it's the ABS disable same at start-up, the same as you would off road

the tester shouldnt comment on what he thinks it is, just what it did on the test, however, first thing to do is to go back and ask him if he knew it had abs, also , i think you would feel it if the servo came in and out,does the servo stop working under a certain speed in normal operation? cos a brake machine doesnt turn the wheels fast

does the servo not cut out once it reach's a particluar pressure ?

I know it does this for the rear brake, if you sit for any length of time with the back brake on on you'll hear the servo then it'll cut out, move your foot or change the pressure on the pedal the servo kicks back in again.

Though I can't say I've noticed this with the front, but I've not been looking for it I tend to use the back brake when stationary for any length of time.

Thanks guys for advice. Ill take it to work tomorrow and have a play. From what you have said, i think its the abs doing what it does as normal, ive just not seen it that way before plus maybe the guy didnt realise so ill phone and talk it over with him.

I had a similar comment from a small local bike shop when I took my GS in for it's first MOT, the guy admitted it was one of the first modern BMWs he had to test, he did not know about the servos or the ABS. He mostly does sports bikes and motorcrossers etc. He passed it, but I got the impression he wasn't 100% convinced that the brakes were right.
Since then I've always taken it to Southport Superbikes, at least they know what they're dealing with, the bike has always passed without problem.
