Servo on ABS - when did it die

Hi All

Not many posts from me, am still looking for the right bike to come my way.

Went to go look at a 1200 GS the other day, and was surprised that it had servo brakes. I rode an 1150 a few years ago, and hated the servo assisted brakes. I'm not Valentino Rossi, but was not a fan of the lack of feel...

Have also spent some time with a 1200 GSA and it didn't have the servo brakes but did have ABS.

Now my question is when did BMW drop the servo idea? I want to only hunt for non-servo bikes.

Lastly, whats up with all this bloody corrosion on the bikes here in the UK. My image of BMW's bullet proof indestructable bikes has been somewhat tarnished by some of the bikes i've seen. (some corrosion was so bad I could swear i could see the crank turning through the front case...):augie

Over n out...

Servo brakes were dropped on the GS from MY 2007.

Corrosion - non-passivated alloy with water based paint. :(

:eek:Guess that pushes the budget up quite a bit...

Thanks for the info!!

Personally, I love my servos. :thumb2

I always think back to previous bikes and remember how the brakes always went 'dull'. Then the quest for braided lines/different pads/scrubbing of calipers etc. began to get the brakes back to how they felt in the beginning. Maybe a lot of it was in the mind. Now four years down the road and my servos are still as sharp as a very sharp thing and anything else I've ridden recently (with the exception of the KTM SMT), feels lacking in comparison.
As for 'feel', I guess I got used to them very quickly and I don't have any issues with lack of feel.

Does that make me like Vale ? :D

You need a ride on a Megamoto Davy. The Brembo Goldlines on that are brick wall effective. Having said that, I was pretty impressed with the servo brakes on my '04 GS. The non servo ABS ones on my '07 weren't so good but the brakes on my '09 bike are not far behind the servo ones now that they're properly bedded in.

(Coming over next week with SWMBO, in the car and spending the week in Donegal. Will you be around....?)

If you can arrange a ride on one, Mike......I'll not complain. :D

I'm off work on the Fri/Sat/Sun. Only too happy for to meet up if poss. :thumb2

I've not had any problems with my brakes. It's the first time I've had servo brakes on a bike. TBH, I forget they are servo assisted, until I'm pushing it out of the garage with the ignition off
