setting engine up for y piece and standard can and stuff!

Hi, I have a mismatch set-up, i have a remus y piece with a standard gs exhaust and it seems to be running a little fats at idle.

I bought the bike as a project so i don't know what it was like before other than it had a remus end can also.

i have read on some posts about a yellow relay box for different fuel and things... do i need to change any settings/relays for my current setup?

also the l/h throttle rocker vibrates and taps against the stop???? the r/h doesn't do that.. so is it normal?

Thats not a mismatch set up. I've been running that set up for 4 years after ditching the remus end can ( all noise, no benefit)

Set the engine up properly to start with.
 
Thanks, just had another play and the idle is just over 1k but after a throttle 'blip' theres a backfire ! think i shall visit a professional , thanks again for your help :)

Can you help please?ive a 2001 single spark 1150 running the y piece and std can like yours,ive got the bike running with your wiring link, it runs ok, but i wonder will it run better and maybe a bit smoother with any other configurations on the fuel map selection socket? I hears there was about four different internal maps available ,Thanks Mate Paul

Phone the RAC or usual advice is to try various positions and see how it goes, try a search as I'm sure this is covered.

ive looked and looked.

ive found the info on adv rider, but i think they are the configuarations to access the different maps with the replacement sport chip, i dont think they are relative to the std chip.i'll give bee emm a ring, if i find out anything useful i'll let you know,ta Paul

yes i know dave, im always trying new positions,gives me back ache sometimes, im getting old you know.
well i spoke to bmw tun wells, there is only one cat plug listed for my bike,whatever exhaust combo you use,wtf?
D6, are you on some gay 80's trip or summat, have you been sniffing the brake cleaner again?

steppers answer is definitive,
try it an see, no damage will occur, different links have different effects on different bikes, there is no answer to this except steptoe,s:thumb2

After a couple of months with a race can and Y Piece that seemed to be running a little rich with the occassional pop and bang on the over run i switched back to the standard can and a Y Piece this morning due to the race can still not fitting perfectly and being noiser one day and quieter the next. :rolleyes:

Now have a nice free running engine, with lots less noise and seems to be idling fine, running fine and no popping and banging anymore.......... no changes to cat plugs required :thumb2
 
Many pops and farts on the overrun are caused by airleaks in the silencer/y piece/zorst bit. So not necessarily a set up issue...
 
Cat code plugs or the "steptoe" link have nothing to do with setting the bike up for running with different cans, exhausts, popping or backfiring.

They work (or not whatever the case maybe) on standard sets ups or y piece and whatever you have.

Simply try it and see, costs you less than a pound.

i also run my 1150 twin spark y piece standard can runs like a swiss watch
the remus popped on the over run and was too noisey
I tried the MOD for fueling but reverted back
hope you get it sorted
