Hi all,

Just a quickie,

Anyone out there running an 1150 with Y-Piece & std can?

I'm about to fit one (tonight), and I'm wondering if there's any info out there.

What setup you running? Which Cat-code plug?

Do you leave the Lamda Sensor in place or remove it and plug the fitting with the bolt supplied?

Did anyone have fuelling problems that they had to sort y techlusion or similar?

Any other views?

Ta,

Mike.

I'm running Y and standard can. No cat-code plug, although you could do a search for "Steptoe Link" and try that.

No chip, techlusion or other gubbins.

And yes, keep the Lambda probe.

Same here

Y piece and standard can. Replaced Lambda and left everything else alone.
No problems with surging, random back fires from imperfect seal, greatly reduced with a little time spent balancing TBs.

Have posted another thread on pinking, not sure if related to Y-piece. I'm going to pop in to local dealers (Vines), they said they'd have a quick look see. Currently following Steptoes advice....... revving it higher and changing up later. Works a treat. :clap

Just got back from giving the bike a shakedown.

Have had to press the bike into service cos the car's bust!

Haven't fully reassembled it - Haven't put all the extra covers, skidplates and cylinder head protectors on, so she's looking a bit "Half Built".But all the important stuff is there and working. I know the tb's are out, so she's shuddering a bit, and it's popping on the overrun - and surging. ABS has tripped out, cos I haven't set the sensor gaps - they are too big, so I have a distracting light on the dashboard. The Battery is knacked, so I'm carrying a starter pack in the topbox and daren't stall it! Brand new tyre on the front that needed scrubbing in before I get any feel out of it - and it's he first time I've ridden the bike on a 17" front. First time back on the road since I was taken ill last year.

Absolute nightmare for the first mile. 10 miles later, I've bedded the brakes and tyres in and starting to enjoy myself.

Another 10 miles, and I'm exiting a roundabout on the back wheel in 2nd! Yup - the Y-piece DEFINITELY improves mid-range torque!!! Boy it's good to be back on the GS!!!!! and not a moment too soon!

I love these bikes.

I'll get back on here with my findings on how she's running when I get the TB's tuned, and the tappetts done.

Thanks all for the advice.

When installing the y piece, did you have to remove the center stand? Just wondering as it seems that the stand bolts on to the end of the box under the bike.

No, you don't , they're just support bolts that insert into the exhaust bracket -- and don't be surprised if they're seized, and you round off the tork ends trying to remove them :D

Yup - fitted a treat.

I could do with some nice shiney new exhaust clamps though....

Any around?

you should have nice stainless steel clamps with your Y piece ( if it's a remus)-

in a smaller diameter than the bmw clamps

Yaeh - I've got 2 that came with the (Second hand) y-piece, but could do with some shiny new ones to go right at the front, and on the end can.

TB's all balanced, CCP removed, ecu reset, and....

While it runs beatifully now, really smooth - she backfires a treat.

Plugs looking rather blackened...

cat code plug

Mine was running a little lean, fitted the jumper wire ala steptoes info on an old thread and plugs seem spot on,

She does pop back a little but its great for scaring pensioners doing their hedges!!

Whats the general feeling on the code plug? is it better to go without it alltogether or fit the wire link ala Steptoe? I have the same setup as above ie y peice and std can.

which of the above two ccp options is richer or leaner?

Cheers

What you need now is a BB power chip, I have the same set up and put the BB in, stopped the back fire and a lot more power. :D

Got one for sale at the moment ;) :D :D

I had the same set-up and found that the best running was achieved with the 'Steptoe link'. Saves the cost of the Techlusion (I sold mine) and offers much the same benefits. Backfires can be minimised by very careful sealing, but never really eliminated. Standard can gives more mid-range than a Remus, IMO.
